Ederson's mad last-minute Brazil call-up

What a ridiculous bit of football chaos this is. Ederson was on holiday, had gone to a wedding, left his passport in another city because he thought his chance had gone, and then gets the call anyway. Absolute scenes when your World Cup dream turns up after you’ve already mentally switched off.

Fair play to his mates and family for scrambling to get everything sorted in time. You can only imagine the panic, especially with the passport and the clothes situation all happening at once. Football really does produce the most bizarre real-life stories sometimes.

Also, there’s something properly funny about a player being called up like this while everyone around him is trying to turn a holiday into a travel emergency. You’d be buzzing, but also sweating bullets the entire time.

It is easy to laugh at the passport and clothes chaos, but this is a massive moment for him. Going from thinking it is over to being in the Brazil squad must be surreal. The stress sounds awful, though, and his friends deserve a shout for getting him sorted so quickly.

this is peak football chaos honestly he was on holiday at a wedding thought he was done and then gets the call and suddenly everyones scrambling for passport and clothes like its some sort of mad mission

It shows how quickly things can change in football. One minute you are off the radar, the next you are packing for the World Cup.

People are acting like this is some joke about a bloke forgetting his passport but honestly it just shows how mad these situations are for players and their families, he thought he was out of the picture so of course he went home and relaxed, nobody is sitting there on holiday with a suitcase packed for a late Brazil call, and then when the call comes you are trying to move countries in a few hours while your mates are driving documents around and your wife is sorting clothes, that is not some luxury problem, that is just chaos, and fair play to him for being ready to go after thinking it was finished because a lot of lads would have mentally checked out completely by then and just said no chance, plus people acting like he should have just magically been prepared are missing the point entirely, if you think your chance is gone you are not going to keep your passport in your hand like you are waiting for a taxi to the airport, football fans love to reduce everything to memes but this is actually a really human story and the fact he still has to get there and focus after all that is mad enough without people taking the piss

nah i dont think it is fair to act like this is some huge mystery he was on vacation and thought he wasnt making it so obviously he didnt have everything ready, thats just normal behaviour and not some weird mistake

so let me get this straight he thought his chances were gone and then the call comes and suddenly everyone is acting like he is some tragic hero because he needs a passport and a shirt what a load of nonsense he is still getting the best possible news in football while most people are worrying about rent and trains but yeah sure lets make a whole opera out of him needing clothes

The basic point is that this is what makes international football feel huge again, because a last-minute call-up has drama built into it before the player even gets on the plane. You can laugh at the passport and the wedding and the clothes, and fair enough, it is funny, but what really stands out is how quickly the whole thing flipped from done deal to emergency scramble. And that is why people get hooked on these stories, because every so often football stops being polished and becomes pure chaos, and then you start thinking about all the other players who must have been one phone call away from the exact same panic, which leads me to the bigger issue of how squads are built and how much luck there is in these things, because one injury and suddenly the whole mood changes, and that is before you even get into the pressure on the lad himself when he arrives and has to act normal after spending the morning trying to locate his own passport

It is a great story, but it also shows how fast a squad can change when someone gets injured. Brazil have probably had to make peace with a bit of chaos here, and fair play to Ederson for being ready when the chance came imo
