Eric Garcia red card vs Atletico Madrid sparks DOGSO and VAR consistency debate

Barca building a defence out of vibes again. Every year there is a new name, same nonsense, same walk to the tunnel looking confused

I SAID IT LAST ROUND TOO. THIS HIGH LINE IS NOT BRAVE IF YOUR DEFENDERS CANNOT HANDLE THE DISTANCES. IT IS JUST BAD RISK MANAGEMENT.

funniest bit is everyone pretending to be shocked. second i saw the replay i was like yep here comes the red and the meltdown

I am annoyed, but mostly at the team. When you play that high, the central defenders need perfect timing on when to step, when to drop, and when to trust support. Barcelona had already been living on the edge in transition. So yes, I hate the inconsistency with the Olmo call, but I also think the defensive process put Garcia in an impossible situation.

Barca really said lets dominate possession and then donate one red card with it 😭 elite entertainment for neutrals

The 'Kounde is there' argument is overstated. Proximity alone does not cancel DOGSO. Angle, control and likelihood of a shot matter more. Sorloth had all three in his favour.

all this tells me is the line is cracked. keep doing the same thing in huge games and crying after is hilarious

THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU THINK STYLE ALONE WINS BIG NIGHTS. YOU STILL NEED DEFENDERS WHO CAN JUDGE A BASIC RECOVERY RUN.

bro i saw Barca fans saying not even a foul 😭 be serious. soft maybe, but Garcia literally asks the ref to think about it

Also worth saying this did not come from relentless pressure. It came from one direct situation, which is exactly why people question the system. Elite teams punish that kind of space.

The funniest crowd in football is the 'games gone' gang showing up only when their team benefits from chaos on other weekends.

I do think the Olmo comparison matters, not because it cancels this red, but because referees create their own problems when one kind of contact is shrugged off and the next becomes a match defining review.

that comment about selling the whole backline was harsh but i kinda get it. feels like every year one of em presses the self destruct button

Another small tactical note. Barcelona's line is not only high, it is often flat. That makes cover decisions brutal. A slightly staggered shape would at least give the nearest defender a cleaner recovery angle in moments like this.

Somebody in the match thread said this team could beat anyone 5 0 or lose 5 2 and that is exactly the vibe. So much quality, so little calm when the game becomes ugly.

still cant believe people were more shocked by the red than by sorloth staying onside there. striker did his job perfectly :)
