EU Parliament calls for Infantino investigation

The European Parliament has called for an investigation into FIFA President Gianni Infantino over his management, which is pretty wild even by FIFA standards. When the people in Brussels are pointing the finger, you know the whole thing is looking a bit rotten

It feels like every time Infantino is mentioned there is another mess attached to it, and yet nothing ever seems to stick. FIFA just carries on like it is untouchable, which is exactly why fans get so fed up with the whole circus

Would not surprise me if this ends up being another huge headline that changes nothing, but at some point you do have to ask how much more can be ignored before someone actually pays for it

Infantino is the perfect example of why people hate the whole FIFA machine, every time he opens his mouth he sounds like a bloke who has spent years learning how to say absolutely nothing while still making everything worse and it is maddening because he just keeps floating above every bit of chaos like none of it touches him, proper merchant behaviour and the sooner he gets dragged through the mud the better because this level of smug nonsense is beyond a joke

I get why people are piling on but you cannot pretend the whole thing is just one man waving a magic wand and causing every issue in football, FIFA has been rotten for ages and Infantino is a symptom of that mess as much as anything else, the man is obviously a shameless suit but the machine around him is built to protect itself so I do think people should be careful not to act like removing him magically fixes the whole corrupt circus because it wont and everyone knows it

Was in the pub the other night and somehow this came up between two lads arguing about who had the worst chairman in football history and one of them just went full rant about FIFA and Infantino for about ten minutes straight, proper red faced, pint nearly spilling everywhere, saying he is the sort of bloke who could make a weather report sound corrupt and honestly the whole table was losing it because there is just something about his face and the way he talks that makes you think he has got a folder of excuses ready at all times and now with the European Parliament calling for an investigation it feels like that pub argument aged like fine wine

The officials around FIFA always get this free pass and it is infuriating because every scandal somehow gets buried under statements, committees, and vague promises of reform while the same faces stay sat there acting untouchable, and now even the European Parliament is saying look into it and I still bet the process will be dragged out until everyone gets bored, this is exactly how these people survive, with paperwork and delay and a load of nonsense about procedure while the whole thing stinks from top to bottom

On paper this is the sort of pressure that should matter because when a major political body publicly calls for an investigation it usually means the optics have gone completely off the rails and the institution in question is struggling to defend itself. But with FIFA and Infantino you always get the same cycle, outrage, headlines, denials, then everyone moves on and the same people stay in place like nothing happened, and that is what makes it so exhausting, because it is not even surprising anymore, it is just another chapter in a book that should have been binned years ago, and honestly I am sick of the whole lot of them pretending this is normal while football gets dragged through the mud again and again
