FIFA hand out World Cup final bans

I am going to defend the losing side a bit here because everyone is acting like this was some unique crime committed in a vacuum when football finals have always had emotion, tension and players losing their heads, and yes if the report says there were charges then fine punish them, but the way people are celebrating bans like they have personally solved the sport is ridiculous because the whole occasion was already emotional enough and now it is just being turned into another pile-on where everyone wants to dunk on Argentina and pretend their own side would never do the same thing if the pressure was that high, absolute hypocrisy from top to bottom and it is boring hearing the same smug nonsense every single time

Paredes is the one that really stands out to me because this feels like the perfect example of a player who cannot help himself and keeps dragging his own name into the mud, and I do not care how much people laugh at it, ten matches is what happens when you keep acting like the game revolves around your temper, then Molina gets dragged into the same mess and suddenly it is like a whole group decided to make the final about themselves, it is so frustrating to watch because you can see the discipline issues before they blow up and then everyone acts shocked when FIFA come down hard and honestly if he had half a brain he would have learned by now

The international-only scope makes this much less damaging for the clubs. The main effect is reputational, especially for Paredes and Molina.

Reminds me of a night in the pub after a cup final when everyone was arguing over a sending off that had already happened three hours earlier and the lad behind the bar kept saying he did not care because his accumulator was dead anyway, and this whole FIFA thing has the same energy because everyone is shouting about justice and bans and fairness while the rest of us are just trying to work out whether the punishment is actually meaningful or just another talking point for the lads to shout about over pints, and honestly the whole final feels like one of those nights where the argument lasts longer than the match and nobody really agrees on anything by the end

I had a proper laugh when I saw the split in the bans because it is such a FIFA thing to do, somehow make everyone a bit annoyed and a bit satisfied at the same time. I am not even sure whether I think it is harsh or soft, but it definitely gave the thread absolute scenes
