FIFA sensor data and the cable controversy

The evidence looks inconclusive from the clip alone. If the sensor data is accurate, then that should carry more weight than people guessing from a bad angle.

I still think people are being way too harsh on the side that feels aggrieved because if you are watching that live or even in a grainy replay and it looks suspicious then of course you are going to react, football fans do not sit there with a lab report in front of them they react in the moment and then they get stuck defending that feeling afterwards, and when the governing body has a reputation like FIFA has then the suspicion comes even faster, so yeah maybe the clip is not conclusive and maybe the data says what it says but that does not make everyone who doubted it some conspiracy goblin because the whole environment is built on distrust and bad communication and people are fed up with it

If you actually look at the flight it seems like the ball just keeps its shape and path until the end, so the people screaming deflection are probably reading too much into the camera artefact rather than the movement itself, and once the crowd decides on a story everything else gets forced to fit it

The officials and the whole way this is being presented are doing everyone's heads in because the second people ask for something basic like a clearer angle or a proper explanation you get treated like you are attacking the sport itself and that is exactly why nobody buys it anymore, not because everyone is stupid but because the communication is awful and it always feels like the conclusion is being handed down before the evidence is actually laid out, and then when fans get annoyed they are the ones called conspiracy merchants while the people in charge get to act above it all and that is what really stinks about it

I can see why people are split on it because the footage is not good enough to settle anything cleanly. If the sensor data is the only solid evidence then the argument should probably move on, imo
