You can make the sensible argument that a footballer should not be judged for the politics or history of his family, and I do think that is the correct starting point, but once the debut happens at Lazio and the name is this loaded, the whole thing becomes a branding disaster whether anyone likes it or not. The football side matters too, because apparently he did alright when he came on, and that means the actual story should be about a young player taking a step up rather than everyone turning it into a history lesson, but football fans are never going to behave that way when the headline is this ridiculous and Lazio know full well they are going to get rinsed for it. It is the kind of thing that makes you sigh because the internet cannot resist a cheap gag and the club cannot resist looking like they have wandered into it willingly, so now everyone is either defending the player or taking the piss out of the badge and nobody is talking about anything sensible for more than five seconds before it all descends into the same old nonsense again
