Forest agree club-record fee for Liam Delap

People are absolutely slaughtering this move but I will say Forest are not stupid for backing themselves here because sometimes you need a striker who can bully defenders and change games even if the numbers from last season look ugly on paper and everyone keeps chanting one goal like it means he is worthless, football is not played on spreadsheets alone and if the club think he gives them something physical and direct then let them back the manager instead of acting like every transfer has to be a perfect spreadsheet win, some players need a different environment and maybe this is one of those cases so calm down with the meltdown talk

honestly i cant even hate it because this is just where the market is now and it makes me feel like an old man shouting at clouds, every time a fee gets announced i just sit there thinking surely that cant be right and then another club does it and we all move on like nothing happened, mental

The officials and the structure of these deals are always making a mockery of the sport because how are we supposed to take any of this seriously when fees get announced like this and everyone just shrugs, the whole thing feels engineered to confuse people and then when it goes wrong the same people will tell us the market demanded it and there was no alternative, absolute nonsense, clubs are being mugged off in broad daylight and somehow the paperwork makes it look clever, I swear the people running these negotiations must think supporters are thick because this is beyond ridiculous

I dont think its just Chelsea being magic at sales, the market is inflated across the board and people keep pretending only one club is doing this while every side is paying silly money for prospects and then acting shocked when the prices keep climbing, its not some secret trick its just everyone agreeing to be daft

chelsea are basically running a buy low sell high shop at this point and everyone else is just standing outside wondering how they keep getting away with it, i still dont know whether to be impressed or annoyed because the numbers are silly but they keep landing on their feet somehow

The key point here is that the fee only looks absurd if you judge it purely on last season's output, and that is not really how a lot of these deals are being built anymore. Clubs are buying age, league experience, physical profile and perceived resale, and if Forest believe Delap fits the way they want to play then they may be paying for certainty in a specific role rather than for goals alone. That said, it is hard not to laugh when the same player is being talked about as a profit machine after a poor campaign, because the whole thing feeds into this wider market where everyone seems to be chasing the next clever move and then copying it badly, and before long every club is acting like a finance desk with a football badge which is probably why we all end up arguing about it like this
