France 4-6 England: absolute madness

A third-place playoff should not be this entertaining, but here we are. It was chaotic, ridiculous, and somehow exactly what neutral fans wanted.
 
you just dont see games like this very often and thats why people should stop acting like the third place match is pointless because when it turns into this kind of madness its brilliant and every goal just makes it more absurd
 
I am not even trying to single anyone out too hard because the whole thing was a mess, but one player can absolutely make a game feel completely untethered and tonight it felt like that from the moment things opened up, every time he got involved it dragged the whole match into another level of chaos and then the late finish just made it even worse for the defenders, honestly if I was on that back line I would be fuming because it looked like nobody wanted to take responsibility when the game got stretched and that is how you end up in a scoreline like this
 
The sensible read is that this was a one-off carnival of a match and not something you can really judge either team on too harshly. But also, if you are a fan of organised defending then you probably had a miserable evening, because once the game opened up it felt like both sides were trying to win a basketball scoreline, and that is exactly why it was so watchable and so funny at the same time
 
This is exactly why neutrals love a game like this. It was messy, open and completely unpredictable, and the late goal just made the whole thing feel even more unreal imo
 
I know people will look at the scoreline and joke about the defending but I am not having anyone act like England were somehow lucky to be involved in a game this entertaining because they kept going, they kept trying to make things happen and when the match became chaotic they actually embraced it instead of hiding from it, that is what you want from a team in a dead rubber, not some timid nonsense and not a bunch of players just jogging around waiting for it to end, so fair play to them because they made the most of a weird situation and turned it into a proper spectacle
 
The officials were all over the place in that match and it made an already chaotic game feel even more chaotic because every stoppage, every decision and every bit of contact seemed to drag the whole thing into more nonsense, and when a match is already that open you need the referee to have some control or it just turns into bedlam, which is basically what happened here, and I swear half the time nobody knew what was being given or why and that just adds to the frustration when you are trying to enjoy a proper game and instead you are sat there shouting at the screen because the whole thing has become a shambles
 
It was a bizarre match, but in a good way. The scoreline makes it feel like both teams just decided to abandon caution, and that is exactly why it was so fun to watch. Not many third-place games give you this much drama.
