France camp joking about Mbappé ‘Mobut’

I actually think people are being too harsh on the joke because if you watch football long enough you know every squad has this sort of thing and it does not mean the players are disrespecting anyone or making some grand statement it just means they are comfortable enough to banter and that is a good sign not a bad one and Mbappé being at the centre of it probably says more about how important he is in the group than anything else because if the lads didnt like him they wouldnt bother joking with him at all and everyone piling on like this is some scandal is missing the point entirely
 
cant lie i laughed way more than i should have at this because the nickname is so ridiculous and the idea of them all on a plane just chatting absolute nonsense is peak football
 
It sounds like harmless banter from a close group, nothing more. The reaction online is probably bigger than the moment itself.
 
nah i dont buy the idea that this is some big sign of harmony or whatever because players can laugh on camera and still not be that close behind the scenes and people always do this with France as if a few clips prove everything about the squad
 
It is a funny clip, but I would not read too much into it either way. Squads can look relaxed in public and still have plenty going on behind the scenes. Still, if the mood is genuinely this light, that is usually a decent place to be before a tournament.
