Group C looks properly chaotic

I saw the 4-0 and just laughed then immediately thought yeah that is the sort of result that follows a team around for ages, even if it is only a friendly it sticks in your head and suddenly every preview has them written off before a ball is kicked properly

people are acting like this means nz are doomed but friendlies are a weird mess and teams often try stuff out so i wouldnt read too much into it even if 4-0 sounds brutal on paper it does not always mean the same thing when the real games start

If all four teams can score, then the shape of the group matters more than the raw friendly numbers. The side that can stay compact without losing its attacking threat will probably have the best chance, because open games against evenly matched opponents usually come down to a couple of moments.

The referee and officials are already getting blamed in my head before the tournament even starts because once a group has this much noise around it every little decision is going to be treated like a scandal and you just know there will be one game where somebody gets a soft foul, then a booking, then a penalty shout and the whole place goes mental, and people will ignore the fact that the defending was probably awful anyway and spend the next week screaming about the man in the middle like that is the whole story

There is a fair argument that friendly scoring spikes can flatter everyone involved, because rotations, fitness levels and experiment-heavy lineups all change the picture. But at the same time, if every side in the group is at least finding the net, you have to assume there is enough attacking quality to make the matches unpredictable, and that is exactly why I think people are overconfident about who will cruise through it. Then again, once one team gets labelled the weak link, every result gets framed as proof and the whole conversation becomes less about football and more about people trying to win arguments online which is basically the modern game and I hate how much I care about it

The main takeaway is that this group may be decided by defensive errors rather than attacking quality. If everyone can score, the first team to collapse at the back could be in real trouble.

I think the comment about New Zealand being the weakest side is probably the most reactionary part of the discussion, but it is understandable given the scale of the Haiti result. Friendlies are unreliable, yet they can still reveal whether a team is struggling to manage pressure, and that is worth noting.

You can make the sensible case that friendlies are not the place to crown anyone weak or strong, and that would be fair enough, but then you watch a 4-0 and the whole thing gets in your head anyway because results like that do not just disappear, they hang around and people start talking and then suddenly every preview is about who is going to get exposed and who is going to bottle it and honestly I am already annoyed by how quickly the whole discussion has turned into a pile on because football fans cannot help themselves and they will use one result to act like they knew everything all along and it does my head in

There is enough evidence here to suggest the group could be competitive, but not enough to draw hard conclusions from one friendly. New Zealand may well be the weakest on paper, though that still leaves plenty of room for surprises once the tournament begins.

nah i dont buy the whole weakest team thing just because of one result friendlies are for trying stuff and you can get punished for that without it meaning much in the real tournament

I keep seeing people pile onto New Zealand as if one friendly scoreline proves they are done and it is honestly embarrassing because football is never that simple and one bad result does not mean you are suddenly a hopeless side, but the way some fans talk you would think they have been relegated from existence, and then you get the whole thing where every missed challenge and every loose pass gets turned into a joke and I have seen this happen to players as well where one performance follows them around for months, and if that is what is happening here then it is going to be relentless because people love a scapegoat and they will keep hammering the same name until it stops being funny and starts being miserable
