Guendouzi calls out fan abuse

The officials are always the first place these things get ignored and that is the bit that drives me mad because once the crowd starts crossing the line everyone in the ground can see it and yet nothing happens, no warning, no pause, no one stepping in, just let it roll on until it turns into a bigger mess and then everyone suddenly acts surprised like this came out of nowhere, it is the same old nonsense every week with refs acting powerless and the whole thing being treated as part of the entertainment when it is plainly not, absolutely piss poor from the officials and the whole lot of them should be ashamed
 
I do not think this is all on Guendouzi though, if the crowd is going after family members then the issue starts way before his reaction does and pretending he should just smile through it is nonsense, football fans love to dish it out and then act shocked when a player gives them something back
 
There is a sensible conversation to be had about where banter ends and abuse begins, and this is probably one of those moments. If people are screaming personal stuff about family and children then you cannot really hide behind the old football culture excuse forever because that just makes everyone look disgusting. But then you get the usual crowd acting like the player is the whole problem and the stands are full of angels, which is laughable, because football supporters love to push and push until someone bites back and then they start crying about respect, and honestly it is why these debates go nowhere, because the second a player has a personality people lose their minds and the whole thing turns into moral panic and tribal nonsense and I am bloody sick of it
 
The bigger issue is that no one in the stadium seems willing to stop it once it starts, and that is why these situations keep escalating. If the message from above is basically do whatever you want in the stands then the players will keep reacting and the whole thing becomes a circus
 
I will defend the losing side here because people are acting like the crowd is some faceless villain and the player is some innocent victim when football has always had edge and hostility and if you strip that away you end up with a flat little sanitised product nobody wants. That does not mean family abuse is fine, it is not, but the idea that every hostile atmosphere should be treated like a crime scene is over the top and there has to be some room for players to handle pressure without the whole stadium being punished for a few idiots
 
Guendouzi is not helping himself here because every time he opens his mouth it feels like another unnecessary row, and that is before you even get into the fact that he seems to invite this sort of reaction. He never just walks away, he always has to make it a thing, and then everyone acts shocked when the crowd bites back, absolute nightmare stuff from him
 
The key point is that crowd abuse and match management are not the same issue. A referee cannot police every chant from the stands, but the authorities can and should take personal abuse seriously. If the line is crossed that badly, there should at least be a clear protocol.
 
its mad how people expect players to just take anything from the stands and say nothing because apparently thats part of the game now but if the same fans got it back for one second theyd be crying about respect and class all over the place
 
At the end of the day, the comment is probably going to be remembered for the drama rather than the actual point, which is a shame because there is a serious issue underneath it. People hide behind the idea of atmosphere and then go too far, and once it gets personal it stops being football. I just do not buy the notion that the crowd is always entitled to say whatever it wants and then demand silence from the player in return, that is nonsense, and if the authorities cannot draw a line then they are part of the problem, and honestly the whole thing makes the game feel more poisonous every season and I am sick of pretending otherwise
