Guendouzi calls out fan abuse

A measured point would be that football has to be able to distinguish between ordinary hostility and outright personal abuse, because otherwise the standards are meaningless. But as soon as you say that, the conversation gets hijacked by people either defending every chant as tradition or pretending the player is the only problem, and then it turns into the usual online mess where everyone is shouting past each other and acting like their side invented morality, which is exhausting, and if the people in charge cannot even acknowledge the difference then the whole sport is just rewarding the worst behaviour and I am genuinely fed up with it

I remember watching a match with my mates and one bloke kept shouting absolute filth at a player all game then acted like a victim when the player looked over and gave him a stare and it was just embarrassing really because that is the level of maturity we are dealing with in football most of the time

Guendouzi is not wrong to call out the abuse, but I do think the reference to referees is a bit off. Match officials can stop play for certain issues, yet they are not realistically going to control an entire crowd on their own. The proper response has to come from the governing bodies and the stadium authorities.

People are going to turn this into another Guendouzi personality debate when the actual issue is that football crowds keep getting away with saying the most vile personal nonsense and then everyone shrugs and says it is just part of the game and that is exactly why nothing changes because the people in charge are terrified of upsetting the loudest idiots in the stand and players are left to deal with it themselves and then when one of them speaks up you get the usual lot acting like he is the problem instead of the abuse and it is honestly pathetic because if you cannot tell the difference between a bit of needle and going after someones family then you should not be anywhere near a football ground

the way some of you are defending this is hilarious honestly acting like abusing families is some noble football tradition and then crying when a player says anything back absolute clowns
