Henry backs Ronaldo over World Cup talk

People keep pretending the issue is just the World Cup when the real problem is Ronaldo himself always making everything about himself and then acting shocked when the backlash comes, the constant spotlight chasing, the interviews, the body language, the whole thing is such a pain in the arse and it gets worse because his fans then act like any criticism is a hate crime, and yes he has scored loads and yes he inspired loads of kids but that does not mean every daft thing he says gets a free pass and it is so tiring watching the same cycle over and over again with him because every time he opens his mouth it becomes a whole circus and everyone has to pick a side and defend their little idol like it is personal

the funniest part is the second ronaldo gets mentioned everyone turns into a lawyer or a priest or both and starts giving a full court defence or a full moral sentencing and its never just football anymore its always some weird culture war thing and honestly henry is probably just saying what any football man would say if you actually watched the lad for twenty years instead of farming clips and arguments on social media

Henry is making a sensible distinction here. A player can have a huge legacy without a World Cup, and Ronaldo’s club record plus his longevity are enough on their own. The debate only gets messy when people try to make it all one simple verdict.

i remember watching him at his peak and it felt like he could decide games on his own and now all these years later people are still trying to boil him down to one tournament and it just feels mad to me because he has been part of football for so long and made so many memories for fans

The fair point is that Ronaldo’s place in history was already secured through club achievements, individual awards, and sheer longevity long before this latest debate, and Henry is not wrong to say that one missing World Cup should not rewrite all of that. But the conversation always drifts because Ronaldo invites it, whether through his own comments or the reaction they trigger, and then suddenly it is not about football anymore it is about ego and image and whether people like him as a person and that is where it becomes impossible to have a normal discussion because everyone has their own agenda and the whole thing just spirals into the same old mess every time
