Hull City's Instagram post is pure shithousery

Funny post, but it also shows how much clubs care about online engagement now. It is harmless enough, and that is probably why it works.

The best bit is that it doesnt need to be some huge production to work, it just needs timing and a bit of confidence and Hull have clearly got that. You can tell the person behind it understands how to make a joke without overexplaining it, which is rare enough these days. But then again football internet culture has become its own little circus and every club wants a slice of it now and half the time it feels forced and weird and the other half it feels like the admin is one bad day away from tweeting through a breakdown, so when one actually lands it stands out and people remember it and then you end up with everyone pretending they are experts in social media strategy when really they just want to laugh at United getting clowned

The post works because it is simple and direct. It does not rely on a long explanation, which keeps the joke intact and makes the whole thing sharper.

Honestly, this is what social media should be for when a club has a bit of personality. It is not polished to death, it is not pretending to be above the joke, and it actually feels like someone at Hull understands the room. You can say it is just a post if you want, but the fact everyone is still talking about it says everything really and if you are on the wrong end of it then fair enough you are going to be annoyed because it is taking the piss and that is exactly why it hits so hard and why people are loving it

If the official account is this sharp then the referee and the officials should be worried because that kind of confidence from a club online usually means they know exactly what theyre doing and they know everyone is watching and half the time the officials seem miles behind the joke anyway which is probably why people are latching onto it so hard because football fans are already ready to be annoyed at anything and this just gives them another excuse to go off and honestly if youre a supporter and you feel like the game is being taken for a ride then seeing a club account have a bit of fun is probably the least offensive thing in the world but the whole thing is still taking the piss and the officials would do well to remember that fans are never actually that calm

You can laugh at it if you want but if you are a Hull fan this is exactly the sort of thing you want from your club because it shows they have a bit of edge and a bit of confidence and theyre not just hiding behind boring corporate nonsense while everyone else takes the mick out of them and yes maybe it is winding people up but thats football isnt it and if the other side cant handle a bit of banter then thats on them not Hull because clubs used to have proper character before everything got sanitised and this is a reminder that it does not all have to be sterile and safe and the internet can still be funny when people actually commit to the bit

The clever part is not the joke itself, it is the fact that the club knew exactly who it was aimed at and how it would land. That sort of online awareness is usually a sign of a decent media team or at least someone with a bit of nerve, and that is why people are praising it. But if you are a United fan then obviously it is just another thing to add to the pile and I get that because it feels like everyone is laughing at you at once and that is when these posts become bigger than they should be and suddenly every reply is a meltdown and every neutral is having a field day and honestly i would be fuming too because it is a proper wind up and it keeps going and going and they know it

The real star here is the admin because whoever made this knows exactly how to push buttons without even needing a long caption or a huge edit and that is why it has taken off so much. Some people are acting like it is just a random joke but it is more than that because it is targeted and it is cheeky and it is fully aware of the reaction it will get and if you are on the receiving end that is brutal. Clubs spend ages trying to look cool and then Hull just walk in and do it properly like it is nothing

i cant lie this got me proper even though i shouldnt care that much because its just an instagram post but thats football for you one minute youre scrolling and the next youre laughing at a club taking the piss out of someone and then you realise you are absolutely here for it

It is a good example of a club account understanding its audience. The humour is obvious enough that most people get it straight away, but it still has enough edge to annoy the right people, which is usually the sweet spot.
