Idrissa Gueye red card for slapping Keane… what are we watching?

Market reaction was funny too. United price crashed after the red like they suddenly became prime City, then Everton score and live odds panic flip. Anyone who trusted United to control a match just because of an extra man has not watched them lately.

At least the game stayed open after that. Thought Everton would park it, but they still went for it. From a neutral point of view it was actually fun to watch :)

People keep saying ‘never seen this before’ like Bowyer Dyer did not exist. Were there any other big ones where teammates actually got straight reds for fighting though?

FIRST THING I THOUGHT ABOUT WAS KAHN SHOVING HIS BACK LINE AROUND IN THE 2000S. IF ANYONE HAD SLAPPED HIM BACK HE WOULD HAVE EATEN THEM ON THE SPOT 😂

Also shout out to the Idrissa Guerrero and Michael Kane typos I saw on social already 😅 Premier League multiverse is wild.

Everyone saying Keane should have rolled around if it was an opponent is right though. Half the league would have been on the floor for five minutes for that, but he just ate it and carried on.

From a risk perspective it is irrational in every way. You are 0–0, early in the match, live probabilities are basically 33 33 33. By getting sent off you drive your own team’s win chance into the ground and hand equity to United for free. No upside, only suspension plus fines.

friendly fire in real life. imagine queuing into a ranked game and your centre mid deletes your centre back on purpose, that is basically what he did.

kinda feel for the ref here tbh. if he keeps it at yellow and the clip goes viral without a red everyone screams that the game is corrupt. sometimes you just cannot win.

you just know the dressing room chat after was nasty. imagine walking in at half time like ‘lads my bad i slapped keane in the face and left you with ten’.

all the ‘manager should handle it, not the ref’ takes are cute until someone properly loses it and actually clocks a teammate. then everyone will ask why there is no punishment on the pitch. you cannot pick and choose.

If you want it handled internally then the manager still has to sub him and probably suspend him. The end result is the same, you are a man down. At least with the red the opponent gets the advantage his own stupidity created.

There is also the message it sends inside the dressing room. If the ref bottles the red because it is a teammate, the rest of the squad sees that as licence to boil over the next time something goes wrong. Strong external sanction lets the coach come in after and say ‘we had no choice, and now there will be club punishment too’.

Feels weird seeing Everton fans half laughing half raging about it. If that happens in some random Liga 1 game here people talk about it for ten years. Defender slapping defender in the box then still winning is peak cursed football story.

Had a little over 2.5 goals multi and thought the red would actually help it, game gets stretched, more chaos. Instead United looked like the side with ten and my slip died quiet. Pain.

had gueye to be carded in one of the accas and of course it is the only leg that lands. guy picks the one time i am on him to go full cartoon villain.

Lesson for props next time, do not trust emotionally volatile thirty plus midfielders in relegation scraps. They will either jog around doing nothing or switch to mma for no reason.

also lets not pretend his psg stuff does not colour how people see him. lots of fans already thought he was a clown and then he goes and slaps his own defender on live tv, reputation speedrun.
