Infantino's Under-15 World Cup madness

There is a version of this where a global under-15 tournament is a genuinely positive thing, but the moment you start involving war-torn fixtures and corporate spectacle it becomes indefensible. You can almost see the pitch deck and it is horrifying, tbh

There is a serious point buried under the absurdity because expanding access for young players from more countries is not automatically a bad thing and football should be more global at grassroots level, but this is not how you do it. If the whole structure is built around investors, spectacle, and bizarre publicity stunts then you are not helping youth football, you are exploiting it. And the opener idea is the worst part because it turns a deeply serious conflict into a PR gimmick and that is so offensively stupid that it makes you question whether anyone involved has an ounce of common sense left honestly the more I read about it the more I feel like we are being governed by people who think reality is just a content strategy and it is infuriating

gianni really wakes up every day and chooses the most cursed option available like hes playing football manager on easy mode but only with the worst possible decisions and somehow the board still lets him keep pressing continue

the tactical side of this is irrelevant because the whole thing is rotten at source if your main selling point is a disney ceremony and a political opener then youve already admitted its not about football its about packaging and thats why it should die before it gets near a calendar

A tournament for all 211 members would be logistically huge, but that alone is not the issue. The issue is the bizarre commercial framing and the fact that the most memorable headline is about children and war rather than football development. That tells you everything.

i actually laughed when i read it because it sounded so fake but then i remembered who we are talking about and suddenly it felt completely believable which is somehow worse than if it had stayed a joke

You can make a reasonable case for more global youth competition in theory because it gives smaller nations exposure and could help development pathways, but every single layer added to this proposal makes it less defensible. The private money, the Disney branding, the attempt to turn it into a spectacle, and especially the idea of using countries at war as an opening act all point to a complete absence of judgment. And that is before you even get to the broader problem that FIFA always seems to confuse expansion with value, as if bigger automatically means better, which it absolutely does not because sometimes bigger just means more bloated and more insulting and more detached from the actual game and honestly I am sick of people in football acting like every ridiculous idea deserves a presentation deck and a sponsor when half of them should be laughed out of the building
