Iran v New Zealand absolute madness

Iran and New Zealand have somehow served up one of those random tournament games that ends up being the one everyone talks about. It started with a bit of chaos and just kept getting better, with that Mohebi goal at 64' pushing it into proper highlight territory.

The comments are basically saying the same thing in different ways: banger match, insane game, peak World Cup, all that. Even if you came in with no expectations, this looks like one of those fixtures that reminds you why tournaments throw up ridiculous nights.

Also fair play to the delivery for the goal, because the praise for the diagonal pass, the cross and the header is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Either way, Iran look pretty legit and New Zealand have definitely been part of a proper classic.

This is exactly why tournament football is so good. You get a fixture that looks ordinary on paper and it ends up producing chaos, quality and a goal everyone remembers. Proper entertainment from start to finish.

nah i dont care what anyone says this is not some all time classic just because it has goals its been open and messy sure but people are acting like every attack is pure art when half of its just both teams leaving gaps everywhere

world cup after dark doing its usual thing mate one minute you are half asleep the next youre watching iran and new zealand turn into peak chaos its the same every tournament and i love it

People always jump straight to saying no defending and acting like that makes a game bad but honestly if you are getting this kind of end to end stuff then who cares, both sides have gone for it and that is what makes it fun, Iran have shown they are no mugs and New Zealand have absolutely not just sat there and taken it, theyve had to keep playing and keep trying and that is why it has been so good, the goal is being talked about like it came out of nowhere but it came from a huge switch and a brilliant cross and a proper header so there was quality in there not just chaos, and if anything it proves these so called random games are often better than the big name ones because nobody is content to stroll through it and everyone has to actually compete instead of pretending a 1 0 is enough

iran have been really impressive here and i think people are sleeping on how much of this is down to their shape and how direct theyve been when they win it back theyre not just lumping it forward theyre actually switching it and getting runners in behind and that makes the whole thing feel way more dangerous than a lot of these games where teams just pass it sideways for ages

if anyone is trying to tell me the star of iran is not ramin rezaeian then what game are you watching because every time he shows up there is something happening and people keep talking about the flashy bits but he is the one driving it and making it look easy, he was one of the standout players last time too and it feels like some people only notice him when the clip goes around but he is clearly the guy setting the tone and if you ignore that then you are missing half the story

Iran look pretty legit and that is maybe the biggest takeaway here, because this does not feel like a fluke at all. They have quality in wide areas and they know how to make the game messy when they need to imo

The key moment is the switch of play before the cross, because it stretches New Zealand’s shape and creates the space for the delivery. Once that happens, the header becomes much easier to attack, and that is why the move looks so clean.
