Joao Pedro left out of Brazil squad

I can see both sides here. He looks like a quality player, but tournament squads often reward specific roles rather than pure reputation.
 
Brazil have made a really strange call here, and I understand why people are upset because the comments make it sound like Joao Pedro has done enough to deserve real consideration. But then you see the usual names being discussed and it becomes obvious that this is not a straightforward football decision at all, it feels messy, political, commercial, all of it, and the worst part is that the lad has handled it better than the people making the selection because his statement comes across as calm and classy while the whole debate around him is turning into a circus and I just dont get how they can look at that and still think the optics are fine
 
im not even a brazil fan and this still feels like one of those decisions that is just going to haunt them because the whole thread is full of people saying he was a lock or that he is their best cf by a mile and then you have others saying endrick and igor thiago fit better and honestly all i can see is a player who has clearly earned respect being told to wait while everyone argues about neymar like the past ten years never happened and if this is really about football then fine but it looks so weird from the outside and if it is about anything else then just say that instead of making everybody guess because right now it just looks ridiculous and people are going to keep talking about it until the tournament starts and probably after that too
 
He seems like the kind of player who will use this as fuel rather than let it break him. Brazil have clearly gone for a different profile, but I still think leaving out someone this highly rated is a risk imo
 
the funniest bit is everyone pretending they knew the squad logic when half the comments are just panic and the other half are acting like football is simple and you just pick the biggest name and go home absolute chaos in here
 
The statement itself is calm, which is probably the best way to handle it. The debate around the selection is much louder than anything he said.
