Kane for the Ballon d’Or?

Rouven Kasper has basically said the quiet part out loud: if you only go by the numbers, it’s Harry Kane and everyone else is chasing shadows. 73 goals in 64 games is an absurd line no matter how you dress it up, and it’s got plenty of people saying the award should already be wrapped up.

At the same time, the whole Ballon d’Or debate always turns into a mess about trophies, reputation, and who people actually want to see up there. Kane’s case feels strong on pure output, but there are already plenty of arguments about whether that should be enough in a year like this. So, is it really that simple, or are people overcomplicating it again?

I dunno why people are acting like this is some outrageous take because it really isnt, Kane has had the numbers and the consistency and thats usually what wins these things anyway, if anything the weird part is how long it took people to stop pretending otherwise

I think people are getting too hung up on the idea that the Ballon d’Or has to be some mythical trophy for the most glamorous player rather than the best individual season, and if you look at it that way Kane has a very serious claim. The goals are ridiculous, the consistency is ridiculous, and even the people trying to downplay it are basically admitting there is not much else to point at this year. It is not even a Bayern thing for me, it is just that he has been doing everything asked of him and then some, and now everyone is suddenly shocked that a striker with huge numbers might actually deserve the striker award, madness honestly

Went for a pint with a mate after work and the whole table ended up arguing about this exact thing because one of them is a Spurs lad and the other is convinced anything with Bayern on it is automatically disqualified, and honestly it was like listening to two people describe different planets, one kept saying stats are all that matters and the other was going on about trophies and moments and legacy like he was giving a lecture, but then by the end even the bloke who hated the idea had to admit 73 goals in 64 games sounds mental no matter how you slice it, proper pub debate stuff really, everyone shouting over each other and nobody actually changing their mind but still somehow all agreeing it would be funny if the award just got handed over already

Kane probably does have the strongest individual case, but I can see why people are uneasy about making it purely a stat award. The World Cup and club trophies always complicate it, and this year there does not seem to be a perfect alternative either.

People keep trying to turn this into some moral argument about whether a Bayern player should be allowed to win it or whether the award has become a joke but the simple truth is if a striker puts up those numbers and does it across the whole season then you have to at least seriously consider him and not just wave it away because it sounds boring or because someone in Madrid wants their lad in the conversation and honestly the whole thing just feels like football fans arguing with themselves again because half of them want narrative and half of them want spreadsheets and neither side can admit the other has a point so it all turns into endless noise and tribal nonsense

At a basic level, the case for Kane is straightforward: elite output, high consistency, and no obvious competitor who clearly separates themselves from the pack. That is normally enough for a player to be in the mix, especially in a year where the usual big-trophy narratives are messy. But football discourse never stays that simple, does it, because now every fanbase is trying to bend the award into whatever shape suits them and it becomes this giant argument about identity and bias and who gets respect and who does not, and everyone loses their minds over it like the vote is a personal insult rather than a football award, absolute circus honestly

I saw this and immediately thought yeah of course Bayern are going to push their guy, thats literally their job, but at the same time I cant even pretend it is outrageous because Kane has been on one all year and there just isnt that one obvious superstar everyone can point at and say no question, so now every fan online is acting like they invented objectivity when really they just want their own guy
