Klopp on Tuchel criticism

Klopp has gone in on the criticism of Tuchel, and as usual it’s sparked the full range of football takes from sensible to completely unhinged. Some people think he’s basically saying a manager can never be wrong because the alternative might also fail, while others reckon the bigger issue was the team’s structure and mentality on the day.

There’s also the usual split between blaming the manager, blaming the players, and blaming the media for turning every loss into a referendum on one man. If nothing else, it’s another reminder that football fans can argue about the same thing for days and still not agree on what actually happened.

Was Tuchel too defensive, or are people ignoring how little control England had anyway?
 
Klopp saying that with a straight face after the media have spent years doing their usual witch hunt is hilarious tbh, one bad spell and suddenly every pundit acts like theyve solved football, proper circus mate
 
Tuchel gets way too much heat for the whole thing and some of it is just lazy because people want one bloke to blame every time England or whoever messes up, but at the same time you cannot watch that and say it was all fine, the shape was all over the place, players were getting dragged around, there was no proper outlet, and you had lads standing off while the opposition just kept coming, like what exactly was the plan there then, because sitting deep is one thing but if you are going to do that you need organisation and a bit of control and they had none of it, it was just panic after panic and then everyone acts shocked when it falls apart, ridiculous
 
People are acting like Klopp has discovered some secret truth when all hes really saying is managers get blamed either way, which is hardly revolutionary, the whole thing was still a mess and pretending otherwise is taking the piss
 
the media will always pick one bloke to pile on and then everyone pretends thats analysis, tuchel wasnt perfect but the whole thing became a lazy blame game and none of the players get held to the same standard
 
There is a fair point in Klopp’s argument, because hindsight always makes the alternative look cleaner. But the criticism persists because the team looked disorganised and passive rather than merely cautious, and that is a different problem entirely.
 
A defensive approach can work if the team still has compactness and a clear trigger to press. What people seem annoyed about is that the side looked stretched and had no real plan to keep possession, so the caution became passive rather than controlled.
