Liverpool agree terms with Iraola

The key detail here is the head coach title, not just the name. That suggests Liverpool want the structure to do more of the heavy lifting than in the old manager model, which could help if they back him properly in recruitment.

On paper this is a sensible appointment because Iraola has shown he can organise a side and get a clear identity across, and Liverpool now seem to be leaning fully into the head coach model rather than the old all powerful manager setup. But the more you think about it the more you realise how ruthless this place can be, because one slow start and suddenly the conversation becomes about whether the club made a mistake, whether the contract was too short, whether the recruitment was wrong, whether the whole project is a sham and before long everyone is screaming that the man is finished when he has barely had time to unpack his bags

A two-year deal fits the modern structure if Liverpool want flexibility around recruitment and coaching. The main question is whether the squad is built to adapt quickly to his ideas. If they back him properly, it could be a very smart move.
