Liverpool's record-breaking season in reverse

The officials have been a joke all season as well and I am sick of pretending otherwise because every time Liverpool drop points there is always some nonsense to deal with on top of it, decisions that kill momentum, soft calls one way and then nothing the other way and it just makes the whole league feel like a mess, I know people will say the numbers are still on the team and fair enough they are, but the standard of refereeing and the constant inconsistency absolutely adds to the chaos and you can see why fans are raging when the season is already going off the rails and then the refs pile on top of it

Went to the pub after work and there was a Liverpool lad at the bar absolutely fuming because every time the table came up on the telly someone started laughing, and to be fair he took it better than I would have because by the third pint he was just shaking his head and saying it was all cursed, said he had been telling himself all season that the next run would turn it around but then more losses kept coming and now even the quiet ones in the corner were joining in, proper miserable night for him and he had that look like he wanted the floor to open up and swallow him and honestly I nearly felt bad until someone mentioned 52 goals conceded and he nearly choked on his drink

Liverpool fans are going to spend the whole summer arguing about whether Slot should stay or go and honestly I do not know how you can look at 19 losses and 52 goals conceded and still think this is just bad luck because that is not bad luck that is a team that has lost its structure, lost its confidence and probably lost its identity too and every time they try to play through it they just get exposed again and again and the worst part is the debate will probably get buried under transfer talk and excuses and one good week will have people saying it was all overblown when the reality is the numbers are staring everyone in the face and they are absolutely horrific

I do not buy the idea that this is all on Slot because the squad balance looks wrong from top to bottom and a new manager will not magically fix that overnight, people are acting like changing the name on the door solves everything when the same weak areas have been there for a while now

Honestly I just feel drained by it now because every time I think Liverpool have hit the bottom there is another stat that makes it worse and it is hard to even be angry anymore, just kind of embarrassed on their behalf

On paper, the most worrying part is not even the losses alone, it is the combination of losses and the defensive collapse because that usually tells you the team is failing in multiple phases at once and not just having a rough patch. If a side is conceding that much in a 38 game campaign then either the pressing is broken, the transitions are awful or the back line is being left out to dry, and Liverpool seem to be suffering from all of it at once. But then you watch the debate online and it turns into people shouting Slot in or Slot out like it is some funny little slogan contest and honestly that is what makes me lose my mind because the club has turned into a punchline and everyone is acting like it is normal

The numbers are bad enough on their own, but the bigger issue is how often Liverpool have looked fragile. That suggests a deeper problem than just one poor run of form.

The stats suggest a squad that is not well balanced. Conceding 52 in a league campaign usually points to problems across the pitch, not just at the back.
