Madrid close in on Konaté on a free

At some point you have to admit Madrid are just absurd at this stuff. They wait, they watch, and then they take the player for free while everyone else is still talking about project plans and long term vision. It is infuriating if you support anyone else because it feels like they are operating on a different level, and if Konaté does end up there then fair play to him but also bloody hell it is the same story again and it never stops being annoying
 
liverpool fans are gonna be fuming about this but madrid just keep doing what they do and its hard to argue with the logic really if they think he fits and they can get him on a free then fair enough even if it does feel a bit grim from the outside
 
The officials will probably be blamed for this somehow by the usual crowd and honestly i am already sick of it because every time a big club gets a free transfer people start pretending there was some shadowy nonsense behind it when sometimes its just a club being smarter and quicker than everyone else and the rest of the league looking stupid but then again the way these deals get whispered about months in advance still makes the whole thing feel a bit rotten and if it goes through you can bet there will be a dozen people saying it was all decided ages ago and nobody else had a chance and the whole debate will turn into another pointless circus
 
honestly if youre a madrid fan you just have to sit back and enjoy it because this is what the club does now it doesnt even matter if people call the player average or say he had a bad season because the moment madrid show up the whole thing changes and everyone else starts panicking and talking about project and culture and all that stuff but the reality is they are still the team every player watches and thinks yeah that looks like the move and it is absolutely maddening for everyone else because you know theyll probably still want another defender after this and then maybe another one and then suddenly the whole back line is refreshed and the rest of us are left arguing about why our clubs cant do the same
 
People are acting like this means Liverpool have somehow been mugged off when the truth is he has still been one of the more useful defenders in that squad when things are working and he is not the reason the whole team has looked off at times, that would be far too easy and far too lazy. He is not perfect, nobody is saying that, but the idea that he is some useless passenger is nonsense and if Madrid get him then it is because they know he can be part of a proper structure. He would not be asked to carry everything by himself and that is the point people keep ignoring, he is not finished, he is not a fraud, and the pile on is just people wanting a simple joke rather than an actual football conversation
 
i dont get people writing him off completely because one rough season doesnt suddenly erase what he can do and if madrid put him in a stable setup then the conversation changes pretty quickly, its not like they are asking him to be the only answer anyway
 
Madrid getting another defender on a free just feels inevitable at this point, and if they want two or three then fair enough because one signing was never going to fix everything imo
 
The main point is that a free transfer changes the risk profile completely. If Madrid believe he can recover his best form, then the move makes sense even if he is not the obvious marquee name. They still need more than one addition for the back line, though, so this would be a piece of a wider rebuild.
 
konate specifically is the one that gets me because every time he is mentioned the chat turns into either hes brilliant or hes finished and the truth is somewhere in the middle but people dont want that they want drama they want a takeover story they want a freebie narrative and then when he plays one bad game everybody will be screaming about how he was never it in the first place and i swear if he ends up at madrid the pressure will be ridiculous because thats what happens there you miss one header and suddenly the internet has decided youre a fraud and i just think some of the takes on him are lazy as hell and a bit embarrassing really
