Real Madrid doing what Real Madrid do again, somehow finding a winner right at the death. Espanyol will be gutted because that feels like one of those moments where you think you’ve done enough, and then it all goes bang in the 90th.

Carlos Espi has obviously become the big talking point here, and Madrid fans are already acting like they’ve unearthed a new cult hero. The Joselu comparisons are flying around as well, which is exactly the sort of thing that happens when a late goal goes in and everyone loses their head.

Still, there’s plenty of chat about Mbappe, Vini, the midfield, and whether this Madrid side are actually playing well or just surviving on moments. Feels like one of those threads where both sets of fans could argue for hours.

That is exactly the kind of late winner Madrid always seem to pull off, and Espanyol will hate seeing it. Espi coming on and scoring straight away is proper chaos, tbh

Im sat here watching this and honestly it just feels like the same old Madrid script again late goal all the hype all the drama and Espanyol left staring at the floor

On a tactical level you can see why Madrid keep getting chances late on, because the pressure from Mbappe drags defenders all over the place and the box just becomes chaos. But at some point you have to ask whether this side actually control games or just live off moments and individual quality. Espanyol probably feel robbed, Madrid fans feel like destiny is on their side, and everyone else is just sat there thinking here we go again. It is maddening watching them do this over and over and then act like it is all perfectly normal, absolute bullshit from the rest of us if we ever did it and they get to call it mentality ffs

The officials were right in the middle of all that as usual and somehow every big late Madrid moment turns into a circus because nobody knows what is being allowed and what isnt and the game just gets dragged into this mess where players are arguing, fans are losing it and the ref is waving things away like it is all fine, it completely kills the flow and then everyone wonders why the whole thing feels so tense and ugly and honestly it is just bollocks because you cannot let a match become this chaotic every single time without someone saying something about the standards

Mbappe gets all the praise but honestly the way he keeps dragging this whole thing around is doing my head in because every attack seems to end up forcing someone else into a panic and then people act like it is all brilliant football and not just him running at defenders until they lose their shape, and then you have the rest of the front line looking like they have no clue what to do when the chance actually comes, it is maddening watching him make a mess of the build up and still come out looking untouchable

Madrid fans are going to pretend this was all part of the plan but it really looked like they were hanging on and waiting for one moment to save them. Espi scoring at the end is huge for them and you can already see why people are getting carried away, but I still think the overall performance looks a bit off and the midfield chat is not going away anytime soon because they are getting bypassed far too easily and it is turning into a proper stress fest every week now

I was in the pub for this and the whole room just erupted when it went in because there was one Madrid lad pretending it was inevitable and three of us just staring at him like he had summoned it himself and then the replay comes up and everyone is shouting about the number 9 being back and some bloke near the bar is saying it is basically Joselu all over again and honestly you had to be there because the energy was ridiculous and my pint went half over the table when the goal hit
