Maguire left out of England squad

Reminds me of being in the pub when a mate insists the obvious shout is wrong and then spends the next hour doubling down while everyone else is staring at him like hes lost the plot honestly this has that same energy you know the sort of thing where the room goes quiet after the announcement and then suddenly everyone starts arguing at once and one lad is saying hes been brilliant for England and another is saying hes finished and then somebody else is bringing up set pieces and by the end of the night nobody has agreed on anything and the only certainty is that the manager has made himself a target for the whole country
 
Nah I dont buy the idea that this is some genius tactical masterplan because if you have watched England for any length of time you know exactly what Maguire gives them and you know how often he has bailed them out so pretending he is some luxury option is just nonsense and people are only saying it because they want to sound smarter than everyone else
 
This whole thing has proper lads in the group chat energy because one minute everyone is calm and the next minute someone has shouted slabhead and the whole room is in bits over a squad leak
 
From a squad-building perspective, leaving out Maguire only makes sense if the manager is prioritising mobility and ball progression over aerial dominance and experience. The problem is that England have not exactly been overflowing with elite options in that area, so the decision carries a lot more risk than reward.
 
I do not even think this is just about one player because the whole thing feels like a weird agenda against him at this point and it drives me mad because whatever you think of Maguire he has turned up for England again and again and been one of the more reliable performers in tournament football while people sit there laughing at the memes and pretending that is analysis and now suddenly he is not good enough when the squad actually needs someone who can handle pressure and deal with the big moments and I am sick of hearing that he is too slow or too clumsy when half the defenders people want instead have not proven anything near the same level and if this goes badly the same people will be acting shocked like they had not been warned
 
maguire always turns up for england and thats the bit people keep ignoring its not about club form all the time and this feels like one of those decisions that looks clever now but will look daft if england need a goal from a corner and hes sat at home
 
I feel like people are being way too harsh on Maguire and on England in general because the reality is he has been one of the most dependable defenders for them over a long stretch and that matters in tournaments where one mistake can send you home and everyone loves to clown him for club stuff but international football is different and he has proven he can handle it and when you are looking at who to trust in a pressure situation I would rather have someone with his experience than a load of names that sound nice on paper but have not actually done it when it matters and if the manager has decided otherwise then fine but people are acting like this is some obvious upgrade when it really is not
