Malen bags a Serie A hat-trick for Roma

Two Serie A hat-tricks since the start of the 25/26 season and one of them has been scored by Donyell Malen. That is already a pretty wild stat on its own, but the bigger shock is just how quickly he has settled in at Roma.

People are joking about Roma kits, Villa needing him, and Gasperini being some kind of attacking cheat code, but it does feel like Malen has landed in exactly the right place. If he keeps this up, a few people are going to look very silly for doubting him.

Also, only one hat-trick in the whole of last Serie A season is such an insane reminder of how rare these nights are. Then the first game of the new season throws this up and suddenly everyone is talking about Malen like he has been there for years.
 
The way people wrote him off after he went to Italy in January is hilarious now honestly, turns up and starts doing this straight away like its some training drill and now everyone acting shocked
 
It is still very early, but Malen looks like a really strong fit for Roma. The system seems to suit him, and that matters more than people want to admit.
 
The most interesting part is not even the hat-trick itself, it is how quickly he has gone from being another name in the squad to the guy everyone is talking about after one game, and that says a lot about both the player and the setup around him, because some forwards need months to settle and some just click instantly when the coaching and movement around them is right, and if Gasperini really is getting that much out of attackers then fair enough, but at the same time people need to calm down with the instant hype because football fans will watch one big night and suddenly decide someone is the second coming, and then if he has a quiet spell next week they will turn on him like he never kicked a ball, which is the most annoying part of all this, the constant overreaction, the endless clips, the nonsense comparisons, the fake outrage, it does my head in
 
people are acting like this is some random miracle but if you actually watch the pattern it makes sense because the lad has clearly found a role that suits him and roma are feeding him the kind of chances that let a forward get into rhythm and once that happens in italy you can absolutely rack up goals quick and everyone starts looking like a genius and now all the same accounts that were saying he was finished or that he wouldnt do it in a harder league are suddenly pretending they always knew he had this in him and its just the usual football cycle where one good night rewrites every opinion in the timeline and then by next week half of them will be back to moaning about the transfer fee or whatever else they can latch onto and honestly the whole thing is so tiring because people cant just enjoy a player doing well without turning it into a referendum on their entire career
 
I saw the stat about only one hattrick last season and it just made me laugh because Serie A can be so weird sometimes, then the new season starts and one bloke instantly doubles the whole number and everyone loses their mind, I love that kind of chaos honestly
