Proper old-school derby energy here, isn't it. Horses on the pitch, police everywhere, and somehow it still feels like the most football thing imaginable.

It really does look like a throwback to a different era, which is probably why people are loving it so much. At the same time, you can see why others are just watching it thinking the whole thing is absolutely mental.

Typical Palatine derby between Mannheim and Kaiserslautern, and somehow the chaos is half the appeal. Football really does find new ways to be ridiculous.
 
You can actually see why this sort of derby gets people going because it turns into a complete mess and the police presence just adds to the tension, its less about shape and more about who can keep their head when everything around the pitch is kicking off
 
It feels like the atmosphere matters more than anything else here. When a game looks this wild, the football almost becomes secondary, which is probably why it sticks in people’s heads so much.
 
People are always going on about tactics and pressing and all that but some players just turn derbies into a complete circus and you can see it here, the whole thing is built around one or two lads losing their heads and dragging everyone else into it, thats not passion thats just stupidity and I swear some of these so called hard men think running around like headless chickens makes them look like heroes when really it just makes the club look tinpot and the rest of the squad have to deal with the mess after, proper embarrassing really
 
It has that proper throwback feel to it. The whole thing looks more like a street fight than a football match, which is exactly why derby days have their own appeal.
 
The thing is, this sort of image always gets people talking because it looks like football before everything became polished and overproduced, and there is something about that rawness that a lot of fans miss. But then you start thinking about the pitch, the safety, the police, the horses, all of it, and it turns into this weird wider discussion about what fans want from the game and what organisers think they need to control. Then somehow you end up comparing it to every other derby under the sun and arguing about whether chaos is part of the charm or just a sign that everybody involved has completely lost the plot
