Messi breaks the World Cup record again

Messi has done it again and, honestly, it feels like one of those moments you almost expect and still cannot quite believe. The dummy, the finish, the timing of it all — it is just so Messi. Argentina have their goal and the whole thing has that classic vintage feel about it.

What stands out most is that he has apparently set the World Cup goal record just before turning 39, which is ridiculous on its own. Some will be talking about the build-up, some will be talking about the officiating, but most people are just going to remember another Messi moment for the ages.

Did anyone else just laugh when it happened because it felt completely inevitable?

Honestly the officials are taking the piss again because every time Argentina get near a fifty fifty it just gets waved on and then you have people acting like its all magic when the whole move starts with stuff that should be looked at properly and the ref just lets it go and lets the game drift into this weird nonsense where one side can barely breathe without a whistle and the other side gets away with everything and its just infuriating to watch

of course its messi again isnt it the exact same move the exact same finish and somehow everyone still acts shocked like we havent seen this a thousand times already its ridiculous really

The key was the dummy, because it created just enough separation for him to attack the space centrally. Austria were too passive in that moment and once Messi got running at the middle, the rest was inevitable. It is exactly the sort of sequence you cannot afford to allow him.

It is impressive how little space he needs to make something happen. The goal was not just about the finish, it was about the timing of the movement and the way Austria lost track of him through the middle. That is why he keeps doing this at this level.

i cant even lie i just shouted at the telly when that went in because it felt like one of those moments where you know its coming but you still lose your mind anyway and now im sat here grinning like a mug

Argentina just let him drift into that pocket and once that happened the whole shape was basically gone the middle was open and Austria looked like they had no clue who was supposed to pick him up it was a proper mess

This is exactly why people get fed up watching him because no matter what the game is doing no matter how many times you think maybe this is the one where age catches him or the defence finally does the job he just pops up and does that little bit of nonsense in the middle and suddenly everyone is acting like they have never seen football before and yes fair enough it is brilliant and yes fair enough the dummy and the finish are outrageous but at the same time how many times can one player do the same thing and still make it look like the first time because it genuinely feels unfair to everyone else and then you get the arguments about whether he should have been closed down or whether the build up should have been stopped earlier and the whole thing turns into the same old circus where the opposition look clueless and the crowd loses its mind and the commentators start screaming about history and honestly I cant blame them because it is history but also jesus christ it is maddening to be on the other side of it

He just keeps doing it and it is honestly ridiculous. The movement, the touch, the calm finish, all of it is exactly why people still talk about him like this even now. At some point you just have to laugh because the man is nearly 39 and he is still producing moments that make defenders look like they have never seen a football before and it is getting silly now

He has basically built a career out of this exact kind of action, drifting off the line, receiving just enough time to turn, and then punishing the gap before anyone can recover. Austria were too slow to squeeze the space and that is always dangerous against him. But honestly the crazy part is not even the goal itself, it is the fact that people still act surprised every single time and then the whole thread becomes a shrine to the same move and I get it because it is unreal but it is also maddening because he just keeps doing this and the rest of us are left watching the same masterpiece over and over and over again and somehow it never gets old and that is what makes it so annoying and so brilliant at the same time
