look i get why england fans are annoyed but this is exactly why people need to stop talking like the result is guaranteed before the game because once you lose you have handed the other side the microphone and messi knows it, argentina were the better team and he is not going to pretend otherwise, and the funniest thing is everyone acts surprised like he hasnt been doing this for years, if anything the outrage proves his point because the second england lose it becomes about excuses and narratives and nobody wants to admit they were second best, thats football though, brutal and petty and beautiful all at once
 
The referee and officials never get the same treatment in these threads when the bigger issue is that England were allowed to get away with far too much in terms of stopping the game and breaking rhythm, and then everyone wants to make it about Messi saying one line after the final whistle, which is ridiculous, because once the whistle goes the story should be the football not the pearl clutching, and if people want to be mad they should be mad about the performance and the management not a quote that is basically just victory banter
