Messi hits 100 G/A in MLS in ridiculous time

its mad because even if you dont rate mls that highly you still have to admit these numbers are ridiculous and the way he keeps stacking goals and assists is just embarrassing for everyone else in the league

You can argue about context, and people always will, but the consistency is what really stands out here. He is not just popping up for one big game or one highlight, he is doing it over and over again and making the whole thing look routine. At this point it feels less like a record being broken and more like the record never had a chance in the first place, which is annoying because everyone else is playing the same sport and he is somehow playing a different one altogether

It is an absurd achievement, and the margin over the previous record makes it even more notable. At the same time, the league context will always be part of the discussion, so both things can be true at once. Messi is still producing at a level that separates him from everyone else in the competition.

The most interesting part is that the record is not just about goals, it is the combined output. That makes the 41 assists just as impressive as the 59 goals, because it shows how much of the attack runs through him.

nah i dont buy the whole he left europe too early thing because he is clearly doing enough wherever he goes and people just move the goalposts every time he breaks another record

I actually think people are doing Giovinco a bit dirty here because he was brilliant in his own right and one of the most entertaining players MLS has had, and just because Messi has come in and broken the number by a mile does not mean the old record was some joke, it means the new one is absolutely insane, there is a difference and people keep forgetting that because they are too busy screaming about Messi being Messi and yes he is unbelievable but let the other lad have his flowers too because 100 G/A in 64 games is ridiculous whichever way you slice it

The key tactical point is that Messi is not just finishing moves, he is also creating them at a crazy rate. That combination is what makes the record feel so hard to challenge.

people acting shocked like this man hasnt been farming records for 15 years now just because its mls doesnt mean he suddenly forgot how to be ridiculous and the rest of the league are basically extras in a messi highlight reel

It is a ridiculous number, but it also says something about how dominant he is in this environment. The record gap is what really makes it stand out.
