Messi’s quote about his life being like a video game is a brilliant way to put it. He basically said he already finished the little game at the last World Cup and he’s done now, which feels very Messi in a weirdly humble way.

The funny thing is that top comments all seem to land on the same idea: he’s in some sort of New Game+ now. No pressure, just side quests, vibes and a player who already has nothing left to prove.

It does make you wonder how much better he looks when the burden is gone. Even if Argentina are still chasing more, the whole mood around him feels different now, and that might be the scariest version of Messi
 
Honestly thats the wild bit, he says hes done but then he is still out there looking like hes in a bonus round and not a farewell tour, which is ridiculous really because most players would be thrilled with half of that career
 
That quote is actually kind of beautiful if you think about it because he is not pretending there is some endless climb left, he knows what he has done and he knows he already reached the end point at the last World Cup, and fair play to him for saying it so plainly. Most players would be desperate to keep building the myth or act like every tournament is some massive proving ground, but he just comes across like a lad who has seen the whole map and is now wandering around in free roam. And the mad thing is he still looks dangerous, still looks calm, still looks like he is in control of the whole thing even when the pressure should be gone, which is basically unfair and annoying and brilliant all at once
 
The biggest change is probably psychological rather than technical. Once a player has won the World Cup, every other tournament becomes less about legacy and more about enjoyment, and that can make the level go up rather than down. He is playing with freedom now, which is a horrible thing for everyone else to deal with.
 
nah i dont buy that hes just out there for vibes, if anything he still wants every single thing he can get and thats why he keeps going, people act like hes retired in his head but he clearly isnt and anyone saying otherwise is chatting bollocks
 
The interesting part is how his role changes once the pressure is gone, because he can drop deeper, take fewer risks and pick moments instead of forcing them. That usually makes a player less influential but with him it seems to make the whole attack more efficient and more annoying to defend against
 
The whole thing is funny because whenever Messi gets a bit of freedom the officials somehow still find a way to make it about themselves, and I do not care what anyone says that is always what happens in these big tournaments, every little touch gets stopped every advantage gets killed every bit of rhythm gets broken and then people act like the game is just naturally slow, it is not naturally slow it is being strangled by refs who want to be the main character, and when you have a player like Messi who is trying to just enjoy the last part of his career after already finishing the so called game the least the officials can do is get out of the way and let the football breathe because this constant whistle business is taking the piss and it ruins everything and then everyone wonders why the match feels flat
