Mourinho eyeing Van de Ven? Madness or masterplan?

On paper you can understand the attraction because pace in defence changes games and gives you recovery options that slower centre-backs simply do not have, but the more you think about Mourinho wanting him the less it adds up, because this is the kind of player people usually want for a higher line and more aggressive covering rather than sitting deep and dealing with constant box defending, and then you add in the fact that the price is being thrown around in such a ridiculous range and it starts to feel like a story built out of hype, speculation and a bit of wishful thinking, which is exactly why these windows do my head in, every day it is a new headline, a new fee, a new club supposedly interested, and by the end you have no idea what is real and what is just people taking the piss

The tactical angle is simple enough really, if you want a defender to protect space behind him then Van de Ven gives you that recovery pace and allows the line to stay higher, but if Mourinho is genuinely the guy asking for him then I am not sure the rest of the setup makes sense because he is not the sort of centre back who wins every duel in a deep block and that is where the debate comes from, so the fit is questionable even if the talent is obvious

People are acting like this is a done deal and it is absolutely hilarious because half the thread is already talking about him as if he has failed there before he has even signed, proper internet football nonsense

The funniest part of all this is how quickly people go from pretending they know the player inside out to declaring he would be a disaster at the biggest clubs in the world, and I am not even saying he is flawless because nobody is, but the amount of certainty flying around is mad, one minute he is a pace merchant and the next minute he is apparently not fit for the shirt, all based on rumours that may not even be properly sourced, and then you get the fee being pushed around like it is some official number when it is obviously just gossip, and honestly the whole thing just sums up transfer discourse now, everyone shouting over each other like they have the inside line when really none of us know anything until someone actually signs or doesnt sign and even then people will still argue about it for weeks

The reported price range is the most interesting part of the story. It suggests there is no firm agreement on valuation yet.

I can understand why some people are dismissing it, but I would not be too quick to write it off because clubs at that level do chase profiles that fit a very specific need, and pace at centre-back is one of those things that can look ordinary until you do not have it, but at the same time the more this story develops the more it feels like everyone is just piling on with their own version of events and now it has turned into a weird mix of genuine interest, media noise and fan fantasy, which is exactly why it is annoying me more than it should because if there is a real move there then fine, but if not then we have all spent half a day arguing about nothing and that is peak football internet

and as for the officials and the people feeding these stories into the press it is always the same nonsense because one minute you get a number from nowhere and the next minute everyone is talking like it is gospel and then when it turns out to be rubbish nobody is held to account, it is just another day of made up certainty and agenda driven bollocks and i am sick of it because even if the player is keen or not keen or whatever the latest version is there is never any clean information and the whole thing gets twisted into a circus for clicks and the people in charge of the narrative just get away with it again

I actually think people are being far too harsh on him because the whole point of having a player like Van de Ven is that he gives you something different, he is not a slow old-school defender who just stands there and heads everything away, he brings recovery pace and that matters a lot more than some on here want to admit, and if Spurs are sitting there deciding whether to cash in then that is their business, but writing him off as a joke move for Real feels lazy to me because not every defender has to fit the same mould, and honestly some of the comments in here sound like they have already decided he is rubbish just because the rumour sounds big, which is ridiculous, football is full of players who get dismissed until they end up proving everyone wrong and I would not be shocked if this turned into one of those situations

i dont get why everyone is acting like this is nailed on when the price is all over the place and the fit is questionable and half the reports sound like theyve been stitched together from nothing, if mourinho really wants him then fair enough but it still feels like one of those stories that gets bigger every time someone repeats it
