Mourinho on Rodri and Madrid

From a squad-building perspective, you can understand the logic of not forcing a move if the player is unsure, because uncertainty at the top level can become a problem quickly and managers hate that. But the way Mourinho says it is pure Mourinho, it turns a simple hesitation into a whole question of mentality and identity and suddenly it is not about one transfer anymore it is about who deserves to wear the shirt and who does not, and honestly that kind of talk always gets people fired up because it sounds principled right up until you realise it is also a pretty brutal way to dismiss a player, and then of course everyone starts picking sides and the whole thing becomes a circus again and I am just sat here thinking mate why does every Mourinho quote have to feel like a press conference and a fight at the same time

I remember sitting in the pub with a mate when a manager said something like this about a transfer years ago and the whole table went dead for a second because everyone knew instantly it was one of those lines that would get repeated for days, and that is the thing with Mourinho he knows exactly how to land a line so it sounds bigger than the actual story, you end up talking about the wording more than the player and the move itself, and before you know it some lad at the bar is acting like he was in the meeting room when none of us have a clue what happened and that is why these quotes always take on a life of their own because football fans love a bit of drama and Jose feeds it every time

If he wants players who are fully committed, fair enough. That is a strong standard to set and it makes sense for a huge club!

Classic Jose though isnt it he can take the most normal transfer story and make it sound like a loyalty test and a power move at the same time and somehow people still bite every single time, half the fun with him is the way he says it like he is revealing some great truth when really he is just being Mourinho and making sure everyone is talking about him and not the other guy

I get why people are saying Rodri should have just gone for it, but that ignores the fact that players are allowed to think about their future and not every hesitation means they lack character. Mourinho making it sound like doubt is some fatal flaw is very on brand but also a bit much imo
