Neto’s dribble was brilliant, then the finish was not

That Neto run had everyone up off the sofa for a second, proper bit of skill and power to get out of trouble. You can see why people rate him when he gets moving like that, he just looks electric for a few touches.

But then the whole thing ends with a shot into the side netting and it feels like he has somehow managed to annoy both sets of fans at once. Great dribble, questionable end product, and probably the exact kind of clip that sums up Pedro Neto perfectly.

Also, some of the reactions in the thread are bang on. Is that just pure instinct from a winger, or should he be doing far better with the pass/cutback there?
 
he actually does the hard bit so well then the final action is just miles off, if he lays it off first time theres probably a far better chance than trying to force a shot from there and it just makes the whole move look daft
 
Honestly I love that bit where he just leaves the defender stuck but then I’m sat there screaming for him to square it and he takes the shot anyway, proper football stress that, you go from buzzing to face in hands in about two seconds
 
He really does have that thing where he can make a fullback look stupid in one touch and then immediately make you question whether he has actually seen the rest of the pitch. That kind of run gets clipped everywhere because it is exciting, but the end product is what everyone remembers and today it was just not there. I get why people love the skill and the pace, because it is the sort of stuff that makes defenders panic, but if you are breaking like that in the 90th minute you have to be calmer. The pass is there, the cutback is there, the corner is there, and instead he basically chooses the hardest option and gets punished for it, which is so frustrating because the talent is obvious and the decision making is just all over the place again
 
I know people are going to pile on because the clip ends with the ball in the side netting but honestly that run is exactly why wide players like him matter, he drags defenders, creates panic and opens up space even when the final action doesnt come off, and people act like every attack has to finish with a perfect square ball or its a disaster, sometimes you just need a player who can carry it through traffic and force the back line backwards, and if the shot is a bit ambitious so be it, the move still had value, it still put Fulham on the back foot, and it still shows he has something most wingers do not have, which is the ability to beat a man from a dead ball situation and turn nothing into danger, so all this selfless football merchant chat is a bit much imo because if he never takes the risk then everyone complains he is passive and if he does take the risk everyone calls him selfish, cant win as a winger these days
 
I swear people are way too quick to write him off every time he has one bad end product moment because the dribble itself is the bit that actually matters here and he does that at a level loads of players in that position cant touch, yes the shot is ugly, yes he should probably do better with the final ball, but this constant chat like he is some useless merchant is just lazy, the lad can carry the ball, beat his man and create panic and that is not nothing, it is literally why managers keep trusting him, the issue is that everyone remembers the miss and forgets the bit that got him there in the first place, and then you get the same tired takes about selfishness and decision making as if he is the only winger in football who has ever chosen the wrong option, its boring and honestly unfair because the skill is clearly there and the rest can be coached
 
He can absolutely cook a defender in space and that is why people get hyped, but the end product still looks a bit raw and that is the part that stops him being genuinely terrifying every week, imo
 
The first half of the move is brilliant because he shifts the defender and opens the lane. The problem is that once he has done that, the decision is too greedy and it wastes the advantage.
