Neymar in tears after Norway loss

I actually think people are going way too hard on him because yes he talked a bit before and yes the tears look dramatic but this is still one of the biggest names in football and the pressure on him is ridiculous, everyone wants him to be either a superhero or a villain and there is no middle ground, Brazil fans especially are acting like he personally ruined their lives when the team as a whole lost and the moment went against them, I just do not buy this idea that one emotional reaction means he is some fraud or some joke, he clearly cares, he clearly wanted it badly, and you can laugh at the optics if you want but some of the comments are proper nasty and over the top and it feels like people are enjoying the humiliation more than the actual football

The officials are going to get dragged into this and fair enough because once you hand out a situation like that people are always going to focus on the ref more than the emotion, but the bigger issue is how the whole thing was allowed to become a circus in the first place, every little decision turns into a theatre production and then everyone piles on the player at the centre of it, whether the call was right or wrong the game itself gets buried under controversy and reaction clips and that is exactly why people are so fed up with these moments, it is never just football anymore it is the officiating, the outrage, the replay, the talking points, the tears, the memes, the endless post match nonsense and somehow nobody is satisfied because the ref becomes the villain one minute and the player becomes the punchline the next

i get why people are taking the piss but at the same time if youve been carrying that kind of pressure for years and it all ends like that then its gonna hit hard, still cant say he helped himself with the way he was acting before it all went south

nah i dont think thats fair at all, crying after a loss doesnt make him weak it just means he cared and people are acting like he committed a crime because he had a bit of swagger earlier

Saw a lad in the pub years ago do something similar after a Sunday league final, he spent the first half giving it the big one to everyone standing near the touchline, proper shouting and pointing and acting like he was prime Zidane, then he missed a sitter and started moaning at his own mates before sitting on the bench looking like he had been personally attacked by the football gods, everyone laughed for a bit but by the end of the night he was still sat there with his pint staring into space like his whole world had collapsed, so seeing Neymar in tears honestly reminded me of that exact energy, the same weird mix of arrogance and collapse, and the whole room just goes quiet for a second before somebody makes a joke and everyone loses it again

The optics are terrible because the taunting comes first and the emotion comes after, which makes the whole thing easy to mock. But it is also fair to say that losing a major moment can hit harder when the player knows it might be the last chance.

From a tactical point of view the bigger issue is not the tears it is how quickly the whole thing turns into a distraction for everyone else, once the game becomes about one personality doing bits and then collapsing you lose any sense of structure and the team ends up chasing emotion instead of control

proper tax league behaviour that, turns up for the drama then leaves everyone else holding the bag while he does the full soap opera routine, absolute shambles
