Neymar really has become pure side-quest football at this point. A 69-year-old journalist delays a 1v1 because of helicopters and Neymar is out here calling him a chicken, which is absolutely absurd but somehow also very on brand for him

Meanwhile he’s also missing Santos’ derby against Palmeiras because he refuses to play on artificial turf, so the whole thing just feels like another bizarre Neymar saga where the football takes a back seat to the drama

It’s hard to know whether to laugh, cringe, or just ask what on earth is going on anymore. The man still finds a way to dominate headlines for all the wrong reasons
 
I genuinely do not understand what Neymar thinks he is achieving with this sort of stuff. He is already missing the derby because of the artificial turf issue, which is mad enough on its own, and then he is out here taunting a 69 year old journalist over a delayed 1v1 like it is the most important thing in the world. The whole thing makes him look less like a footballer and more like a bloke who has spent far too long online, and honestly it is embarrassing at this point because the football should be the story and instead it is always this nonsense and more nonsense and more bloody nonsense
 
It is hard to even process how weird this is. Neymar is meant to be preparing for a huge match, yet the headline is about him having a go at a 69 year old journalist over a 1v1 delay. It feels like he has completely lost the plot tbh
 
Neymar really does manage to turn every situation into a circus and I do not even mean that in a funny way anymore because it is just exhausting to watch the same pattern over and over again he misses actual football stuff then pops up with some bizarre little ego trip and acts like everyone else is the problem and this 69 year old journalist thing is just another example of him needing attention for literally anything other than playing football it is like he cannot help himself he just has to make it about him and then when people laugh he acts shocked and somehow the whole thing becomes even more ridiculous and you end up wondering how a man can be this talented and this unserious at the same time
 
I had a similar thing happen years ago in a pub where two lads were arguing about a pointless five-a-side rematch and one of them kept delaying it because he suddenly had a bad knee and a mystery work call and a dog to walk and everyone in the room knew he was just stalling for time, and this Neymar story gives me the exact same energy only on a far sillier level because now it is a famous footballer, a 69 year old journalist, helicopters, and some weird little 1v1 drama that sounds like a conversation you would overhear after too many pints and a late train home and honestly I love how football can still produce this sort of daft nonsense because it feels like the sport is always one step away from becoming a soap opera and then someone like Neymar comes along and proves it
 
The timing is what makes it look so bad. He is already missing a major match for Santos, so picking a fight over a delayed 1v1 just adds to the impression that the priorities are all over the place. It is hard to argue this helps his image in any way.
 
Neymar has become such a tiresome merchant for this sort of thing honestly, every time you think he might just get on with it he finds a new way to act like a petulant child and this journalist stuff is exactly that, he is 34 years old and still behaving like he is in a lobby trying to wind someone up before a match starts, except this time the target is a 69 year old man and somehow he still thinks he comes out looking cool, which is the maddest part, because all he is doing is dragging his name through the mud again and again and again and if he thinks this is funny then fair enough but from the outside it just looks pathetic and desperate and completely beneath someone with his talent
 
People keep acting like this is some huge scandal but it is basically Neymar being Neymar at this point and if you still expect maturity from him then that is on you really, he has been doing this for years and nothing changes
 
It feels like Santos are being dragged into his personal nonsense instead of being allowed to focus on the actual game. The artificial turf issue, the derby, the 1v1 stuff, it all just makes the whole situation look chaotic and badly handled
