Neymar taunts journalist over 1v1 delay

Neymar acting like the final boss of playground arguments while Santos are trying to get through a proper season is hilarious and tragic at the same time, the man has turned every week into some new episode of nonsense and you just know he thinks he is dead clever too

From a football perspective, the weirdest part is that the off-field noise is completely swallowing the actual match context. If Santos have a big game and Neymar is absent, that should be the focus, but instead everyone is talking about the 1v1 and the helicopter fear.

A measured point here is that Neymar has always been a player who attracts noise, so in one sense this is not surprising at all. The problem is that it now feels like the noise has become the whole identity, and that is why even a strange little 1v1 story gets massive traction. It is not even just about him being annoying, it is about how every tiny side issue grows into a whole circus around Santos and then people end up talking about helicopters, artificial turf, journalists, and some random challenge instead of the football. And then you remember he is 34, which makes the whole thing even stranger, because this is the stage where most players are trying to manage their legacy carefully and he is out there behaving like a lad who has just discovered online banter

There is a childish quality to all of this, but I can also see why it gets attention. Neymar clearly knows how to keep himself in the conversation, although it often comes at the cost of looking silly. It is entertaining in a grim sort of way.

Tactically speaking, the bigger issue for Santos is not the 1v1 at all, it is that the club appear to be dealing with a star who is dominating the conversation for the wrong reasons. If he is unavailable for the derby and the focus shifts to side drama, that is a distraction the squad probably does not need.

The officials and the whole setup around these sorts of celebrity football events always make everything worse because nobody seems to set a clear line and then everyone ends up arguing about delays, access, safety, helicopters, whatever else, and the actual football gets buried under a mountain of nonsense and if I was the referee or organiser I would be absolutely fuming because you can see this turning into a farce before it even starts and then the blame gets thrown around everywhere and somehow the loudest person still acts like he is the victim

Neymar really looked at a normal enough situation and decided to turn it into his own little reality show again honestly the man cannot help himself and it is getting embarrassing now

There is a real case to be made that Neymar is still a huge draw and that is why every odd little story about him blows up so fast, but the more you look at it the more it feels like he is wasting the last serious stretch of his career on nonsense. Missing the derby because of the turf situation is already a massive talking point, and then the journalist stuff just piles on top like he wants the chaos. It is funny for about ten seconds and then you realise the whole thing is just sad because the football should be enough and he keeps choosing the circus and now I am just sat here thinking mate please grow up for one week
