Olise just keeps doing Robben things

That third goal from Michael Olise has people reaching for the same comparison again, and honestly it is hard to argue with it. The cut inside, the shape on the finish, the way it just bends away from everyone, it all looks painfully familiar.

He is starting to feel like one of those players who can decide a game from that right side without even seeming rushed. If this is becoming his signature shot, defenders are going to have a horrible time all season.

Also, fair play to anyone who still remembers the Reading days, because this level feels miles away from that. Bayern really do seem to have collected another winger who loves cutting in and making it look simple.

The funny thing is he does not even look like he is forcing it, he just knows the exact touch and the exact contact every time, and that is what makes it so hard to defend against tbh

every time he gets that little bit of space on the right you just know whats coming and still nobody seems able to stop it its proper ridiculous

What annoys me most is the officiating around these moments because the defenders are allowed to get away with so much before the goal even happens, there is always a little grab, a little late challenge, a bit of nonsense that never seems to get punished properly, and then when the attacker does something outrageous everyone acts surprised, but the whole sequence is built on refs letting games drift and letting people hack away until it turns into chaos, absolutely maddening to watch when the same sort of contact gets ignored every single week

People are going to talk about the finish but the real issue is how many times this same player gets let off by defenders who know exactly what is coming and still cannot do a thing about it, and some of the talk around him is weird as well because he is clearly not just a flashy winger doing tricks for the cameras, he is hurting teams every time he gets the ball in that area, and Northern Ireland just looked like they were watching the same film on repeat while he kept drifting inside and punishing them

I do not get the snide stuff about the other side of this because Northern Ireland are up against a player doing something almost impossible and that is not exactly a disgrace, sometimes quality just wins and there is no need to pretend it is all a collapse or a joke, you can defend well and still get done by one ridiculous moment, and this was one of those moments where the attacker is simply better than the picture in front of him, people should be able to appreciate that without turning it into mockery every time

Honestly this is the sort of goal that makes you sit back and just laugh because there is nothing else to do, he gets the ball in that same pocket and everyone knows he wants to come inside and bend it and somehow it still lands like a surprise, the keeper is already thinking about it, the defender is already thinking about it, the crowd is probably thinking about it and then he does it anyway and it looks effortless, which is the worst part because that is when you know a player is a level above the rest and you are just watching the gap in quality in real time

There is a real pattern to the way he scores from that side now and it is becoming impossible to ignore. The touch sets the angle, the body shape sells the shot, and the finish has just enough lift and curve to beat everyone in the box. You can call it a Robben comparison if you want, but the more worrying thing for defenders is that he looks completely settled doing it and seems to enjoy the repetition, which is when it becomes a problem because now everyone is waiting for the move and still cannot stop it, and that is when it starts feeling inevitable and a bit unfair
