That moment from Velázquez trying to mess with the penalty spot just sums the whole thing up, really. It is one of those clips where you can already feel the match has gone way beyond normal competitive edge and into pure chaos.

The bigger issue is how little control the referee seems to have over any of it. When players are getting away with this much nonsense and the whole thing is turning into a scrap, it just makes the game impossible to enjoy.

Even if you were neutral at the start, it is hard not to end up siding against the shithousery after a while. Absolute scenes, but not exactly the good kind.
 
The spot-tampering is just the latest example of a match that has completely lost discipline. Once players realise the referee is letting everything go, the whole game turns into a scrap rather than football.
 
I was in the pub for this and every single lad at the bar started losing it after that little penalty spot nonsense because it just felt like the game had gone full circus, one minute youre trying to watch football and the next its players crowding around, acting hard, ref waving things on like hes in the middle of a sunday kickabout and nobody knows what the actual rules are, honestly it reminded me of when you get a game where one team starts time wasting early and the ref says nothing and then by the end its just 22 blokes arguing and the actual football is dead, proper miserable watch
 
Absolutely pathetic behaviour from them and the ref is just standing there like a tourist taking in the sights, if you let one bloke mess with the spot and nobody gets punished then of course it turns into everyone acting like clowns
 
I cant even believe how much this has turned into a one man rant against Velázquez because fair enough the spot thing is stupid but the whole side has been making a mess of this for ages now, every challenge looks like theyve been told to leave something on someone, every little stoppage becomes a scene, and the referee is doing nothing to calm it down which only makes it worse, but still if youre the one trying to shift the penalty mark before the kick then you are asking for everyone to hate you, absolute goblin behaviour
 
The referee has completely lost the plot. You can feel the game slipping away every minute and it is getting uglier because nobody is being told to stop. At this point the players know exactly what they can get away with and they are pushing it further and further, and honestly it is turning into a farce, I do not know how you keep watching that and still think this is normal
 
I dont buy the idea that this is all just one lads antics because the whole team has been at it and the referee has allowed it to snowball, if you let the first few dirty bits go then the rest of the match becomes a free for all and thats exactly what has happened here
 
Paraguay playing like theyve got the last packet of crisps and France are trying to nick it out the cupboard, just pure petty nonsense from start to finish and the ref is in the corner pretending not to see it
