People are laughing at this because it sounds daft out of context, but if you actually look at what he has built over the years then it is obvious he understands how to get players invested in something bigger than themselves and that matters, the squad is not just a collection of names to him it is a group he is trying to pull together with trust and repetition and yes maybe weird hugs, but that does not make it stupid, it makes it personal and a lot more human than the usual robotic manager speak, and I honestly think the jokes miss the point because if the lads respond to it then who cares how odd it sounds, let the man be intense and let people enjoy football without acting like every emotional thing is automatically cringe
