Reijnders off to Saudi after a year

There is a reasonable case that City should take the money if the offer is genuinely over £50m. They can replace him, and the Premier League market rarely gives you that kind of profit after one year. But it also shows how Saudi clubs can force decisions that would never have been on the table a few years ago.

If this is really happening then what a waste of a year for everyone involved because Reijnders comes in with all the hype and then he is just out the door before anyone can properly say what he was meant to be doing and I know people will say the fee is brilliant and the business is smart and all that but sometimes football is not meant to be discussed like a spreadsheet and this is one of those times because it just makes the whole thing feel cheap and disposable and I am not even having a go at the lad personally because if someone is offering that sort of money then fair play to him but from a City point of view it is mad to build any sort of emotional connection to a player when the market can just yank him away like this

The fee changes the conversation completely because over £50m after one year is strong business by any normal standard. Even so, the Saudi effect is becoming impossible to ignore, and moves like this make squad planning feel less stable than ever.
