Saw the clip of Ronaldo missing against Nigeria and, yeah, it’s the sort of thing that gets clipped to death online. The comments are already doing the usual Ronaldo discourse, from people taking the piss to people saying the run and positioning were still there.

Honestly it feels like one of those moments where the reaction says as much about the player as the miss itself. Some will call him unc, some will say it was a decent chance, and others will just point to how much attention he still gets for every touch.

Either way, it’s another reminder that even at this stage he can still split opinion instantly. One miss and the whole football internet starts losing its mind again.
 
Nah I dont buy the whole washed argument here because the run was still there and the chance wasnt some sitter the keeper is closing fast and he has to finish first time so people acting like its a disgrace are just overdoing it
 
The main thing for me is he is still making the right movements, which matters more than one miss. If Portugal keep getting him into those areas then the goals will come, even if the finishing is not what it used to be
 
The way some of you lot are jumping on this is hilarious honestly one miss and suddenly its retirement talk again as if the bloke hasnt spent years doing ridiculous things for Portugal and if you actually watch the move he still makes the run and gets in behind so maybe calm down a bit
 
The officials would never get this much grief if they just let the game flow a bit more and stopped trying to make every touch into a whistle fest because half the time the rhythm is killed by some tiny thing that doesnt even need a stoppage and then everyone acts surprised when the game gets messy and the players lose momentum and people start blaming missed chances like this one when the whole thing has already been chopped up by the ref anyway its constant and its boring and it always seems to go one way when certain players are involved
 
From a pure football point of view the move is still encouraging because the timing of the run and the delivery both create a decent chance, and that is usually what managers want to see more than a highlight finish. But once you factor in who it is, the expectations become ridiculous and every miss turns into a referendum on his entire career and honestly it just becomes exhausting because the internet cant talk about Ronaldo normally ever, it has to be either worship or a funeral and its all so over the top ffs
 
ngl this one made me laugh way more than it should have because the comments were already lined up before the ball even came in and now everybody is acting like the sky is falling when its just one miss
 
People are being so harsh on him and I dont think its fair at all because the expectation on Ronaldo is absurd at this point and any normal striker gets a bit of space for a missed chance like this. The run was good, the ball was good, and the finish just didnt come off, that does not suddenly mean he is done or that everything he has done for Portugal is irrelevant and it really annoys me how quickly people jump to that because they want the easy joke rather than actually watching the move properly and giving credit where its due
 
Reminds me of watching a game down the pub where one lad would not stop shouting about every touch Ronaldo took as if he had a personal stake in it, and then the second he misses everyone starts acting like they knew it all along, proper weird energy really because half the room still remembers the good stuff and the other half just want the clip to laugh at, football can be so daft sometimes
 
There is still a very clear difference between a genuine decline and a single missed chance, and this looks far more like the latter. He is still making the run, still arriving in the box, still forcing the defence to react, but because it is Ronaldo people turn it into a whole thing and honestly it gets tiring seeing the same script every time he does anything imperfect and people immediately start with the unc jokes and the finished merchant nonsense and its just boring at this point
