Ronaldo miss vs Nigeria

The chance looks better because of the movement before it than because of the finish itself. Ronaldo is still creating separation and arriving in the right zone, which is why people keep expecting him to score even now.
 
The pass and the run are doing a lot of the work here, and that is why the miss is so noticeable. If Portugal keep producing those situations, they will still fancy him to convert more often than not.
 
A fair reading is that the chance exists because of the quality of the movement and the ball, not because the finish is simple, and that is why the reaction is split so hard. But then you get the usual internet cycle where people either defend him like hes untouchable or pile on like hes never been allowed to miss before and it all gets very tedious very quickly because the same people who say hes done will be screaming when he scores next week and then pretending they never doubted him and its always the same circus with this bloke
 
People are acting like this is some unbelievable disaster when really its just one missed chance and the whole point is that he is still getting there in the first place and that matters, the movement matters, the timing matters, the fact that defenders still have to track him matters, but the internet cannot handle nuance so it becomes unc this and washed that and its honestly embarrassing how fast people switch from praise to mockery over a single clip and if he scores the next one they will all pretend they were never chatting nonsense anyway
