Cristiano Ronaldo has done it again and become the first player to score in six different World Cup editions. Whatever you think of him, that is a ridiculous bit of longevity and a record that feels like it might stand for a very long time.

The reaction online is already exactly what you’d expect: half the internet celebrating, half of it rattled, and the rest trying to argue about whether records like this even matter. But if you’ve watched football for long enough, you know this is one of those achievements that deserves a proper nod.

There’s also something funny about the fact that people keep writing him off and he keeps popping back up with another moment. At this point it’s less about surprise and more about how many times he can keep making a mockery of age and expectation.

The officials always end up in the middle of it somehow, even when the story should just be about a ridiculous record, and I swear the whole thing gets dragged around by the ref and the people with the flags every single time, you cannot watch a big moment like this without some daft decision, some weird delay, some petty whistle that kills the flow and then everyone is acting like it was all perfectly normal, absolute bollocks from start to finish

Went to the pub with my old man and a couple of lads who have been arguing about Ronaldo for years, one of them still calls him finished every time he touches the ball, and the second this happened the whole place just erupted like we had won something ourselves, pints in the air, someone nearly knocked over a chair, proper nonsense but brilliant, football does that to you when a player keeps doing mad things like this and everyone pretends they expected it all along

The interesting part is how this record combines longevity with consistency at the highest level. You need both a player who stays relevant for years and a nation that keeps qualifying, which is why it feels so hard to beat. It is a proper outlier of a stat.

Nah i dont buy the whole 'this means nothing' angle people are pushing, if a record takes this much time and this many tournaments to happen then its clearly something worth talking about and all the weird little digs just sound bitter to me, people can pretend they dont care but theyre all in the replies anyway

It is easy to laugh at the celebration and the fanfare, but this is exactly the sort of record that shows how extreme his career has been. Scoring in six different World Cups is not normal for anyone, let alone a player people have been trying to bury for years tbh

people act like this dont matter but it does because you dont just stumble into six world cups and keep scoring in them, its mad how every time he gets written off he pops up again and all the same people start crying about pr and fanboy stuff

I remember when people were saying the old days were done and he would just fade away quietly, then he goes and does this and it feels like the same old story all over again, ridiculous player whether you like him or not and I still cant quite believe we're watching it happen
