Ronaldo shouting "I'M BACK"

I was in the pub with a couple of mates when this came up on the big screen and the whole place just went from talking nonsense to everyone pointing and laughing because you could see exactly what he was doing before he even said it, that little pause and then the full Ronaldo bit, and to be fair it had everyone in stitches even the lads who usually roll their eyes at him, because when a player has been this famous for this long the smallest thing becomes a moment and you cannot really escape that, it is almost part of the fun, though one bloke did say he would never get tired of Ronaldo making everything about Ronaldo and I nearly spat my pint out because that is exactly it innit
 
It is easy to laugh at, but it also shows why he remains such a huge figure. He understands how to create a moment and make it stick, even when the football itself is not the main talking point.
 
I get why people are laughing because it is ridiculous on the face of it, but that is also why it works so well for him, he has spent his entire career understanding that football is not only about what happens in the ninety minutes it is also about the image, the swagger, the moment after the moment, and he is still somehow better than almost anyone at dragging everyone into his orbit even when all he does is shout a few words at a camera, and honestly that is why people cannot stop talking about him, because he can be completely over the top and still make it feel like a statement, whether you love it or hate it he has your attention and that is exactly what he wants, fair play or absolute madness, depends on the day really
