Ronaldo skips silver medal ceremony

If you watch it as a football moment rather than a personality moment it is still a problem because the rest of the team have to deal with the optics of their biggest name walking away at the exact point everyone else is trying to show some dignity, that sort of thing never helps the mood after a loss and it makes the whole club look fractured
 
I get why people are piling on him but I also think there is a bit of cheapness in the way everyone acts like a silver medal ceremony is some sacred test of character, the man has spent his whole career being judged on every facial expression and every missed chance and every reaction to losing, and yes this one looks bad, really bad, but footballers are human and if he is furious then he is furious, that does not automatically erase everything he has done or mean he owes the internet a nice little photo op just because the cameras are there, people love to demand grace from players when it suits them and then call them fake the second they show any emotion at all
 
Imagine turning up for the whole final just to leave your own teammate holding the silver like that, proper comedy, you know the camera crew were loving it and the internet was already loading the memes before he even got halfway down the tunnel
 
The officials and the whole ceremony setup always end up looking ridiculous in moments like this because they expect every player to play along like robots and then one big name does something human and suddenly everyone is clutching their pearls, if you are going to make losers stand there and get a medal in front of everyone then do not act surprised when someone is raging about it, the whole thing is already a bit performative anyway and these people in suits love to act offended when the cameras catch a genuine reaction, absolute nonsense from start to finish and honestly the game is better without all the forced pageantry
 
On paper this is a small incident, but it fits a pattern that has followed him for years and the pattern matters because it changes how every defeat is perceived. He is still one of the most famous players on the planet, still draws attention no matter where he is, and yet the emotional side of his legacy keeps dragging the conversation back to whether he can handle not being the centre of everything. That is why this clip is doing the rounds, not because a silver medal is important in itself, but because it confirms what people already think about him and now he has given them another example to point at and I swear he never learns and he never just takes the loss like a normal bloke and it is exhausting
 
I had a mate in the pub who used to do this exact thing after Sunday league losses, proper dramatic little exit every time someone mentioned the result, would not even stay for a pint if we got beat and one time he walked out while we were still talking about who missed the penalty, everyone laughed at him for weeks, same energy here really, you can be disappointed without making it everyone's problem and Ronaldo knows full well the cameras are on him the whole time so it just looks like he wants the sulk to be part of the story, absolute madness
 
He has always been obsessive about control, so when the result goes against him it probably feels unbearable. That said, walking away from the medal line only gives people more ammunition and makes the whole thing look worse imo
