Salah does it again for Egypt

Egypt have gone and nicked it through Salah again, and the whole thing is already turning into a massive debate about the referee. Plenty of people are saying the goal came after a foul the other way, while others are just pointing out that Salah being Salah was always going to matter.

It’s one of those moments where the result and the officiating end up sharing the spotlight, which is usually never a good sign. New Zealand will feel hard done by, Egypt fans will not care one bit, and everyone else is left arguing over whether the ref let too much go or simply got it badly wrong.

Either way, Salah scoring in a big moment is hardly a shock, but the reaction around it has been absolute chaos.

Was in the pub when this went in and the whole room just erupted because half the lads had Egypt on and the other half were moaning about the ref before the ball had even stopped rolling, proper mad scene, one bloke kept shouting show the foul like he was on the telly himself and another just stood there saying of course Salah scores because he always does, football is basically a weekly argument now and this was no different

Salah being involved in a moment like this is hardly a surprise, but the officiating has completely taken over the conversation. New Zealand will feel robbed if that foul was missed, tbh

Absolute joke of a decision and the funniest part is the same people who scream let the game flow are always the first ones crying when it goes against them, ref has been handing out nonsense all game then misses the obvious one and suddenly its all fine apparently, piss off

I swear every time Salah scores people act surprised like he hasnt spent years doing this exact thing, the man is still a nightmare for defenders and thats the whole point, but the ref has somehow turned the entire clip into a circus because now nobody is talking about the finish or the movement or anything sensible, just that he either missed a foul or decided not to care and honestly if youre in charge at this level you cannot be that inconsistent, its taking the piss and it makes the whole match feel cheap even when the goal itself is exactly what you would expect from Salah

The goal itself is not the issue, because Salah finishing chances like that is normal. What makes it messy is that the build-up is already being disputed, so the refereeing becomes the story instead of the football.

cant lie if that is a foul then the ref has to stop it earlier and if it isnt then fair enough but the way hes just letting everything go and then suddenly blowing for random stuff is proper annoying and now everyones losing their heads over salah again

If you are still doubting Salah at this point then what are you even watching because the bloke keeps showing up and people still act like he needs some grand explanation every time he scores, he does it all the time and thats why defenders hate him, but the referee in this one has made it impossible to talk about anything else because the standards have been all over the place and it feels like every decision has gone one way, every little touch by New Zealand gets punished and Egypt get away with everything and then when the actual moment comes everyone is just shouting about whether the ball should have been dead before it even got there, its ridiculous and it completely ruins what should have been a simple Salah moment

The measured point is that the ref should probably have stopped play if there was a clear foul, because that is the sort of thing that changes how everyone sees the goal. But once you get past that, the whole match has that weird tournament feel where one decision suddenly becomes the only thing anyone can talk about and all the actual football gets buried under argument, replay requests and people pretending they are experts on the laws of the game, which is basically every big thread on here anyway

New Zealand were trying to press in moments but once the officials let contact go and the game kept stretching, Egypt just looked more comfortable in the chaos. That kind of uneven whistle always kills rhythm and makes one side feel like they have to be perfect every time

Nah i dont buy the whole its corrupt thing, sometimes refs are just bad and this looks more like incompetence than some grand conspiracy, people see one dodgy call and suddenly its fifa this and rigged that when it could just be a ref losing control of the game
