Savio's City farewell goes down well

The main story here is how little it takes for a farewell post to become a talking point. A short message is easy to mock, but it is also easy to read as straightforward and sincere. Most of the noise around it is just fans filling in the blanks.

This is exactly why modern football discourse is cooked because a player says thanks and goodbye and suddenly everyone is behaving like they have uncovered some grand truth about the club, the agent, the media team, the fanbase and the lad himself, and half the replies are just people trying to get a laugh out of the fact it was short while the other half are insisting that brevity means he never cared, when in reality it could just be that he is not interested in writing a novel for strangers online and that should be the end of it, but no we have to turn every tiny thing into a referendum on authenticity and it is exhausting because the same people who cry about PR will also complain if a player says too much, so what exactly do you want from them then, a poem, a statement, a handwritten letter, a documentary series, honestly just let the boy say goodbye and move on

i cant even lie i found this funny because the message is so plain and everyone in the replies is acting like theyve just seen the most tragic goodbye in football history, sometimes less really is more but in this case it just made the whole thing look a bit awkward and i cant stop laughing at it

Saw this after a couple of pints and it honestly reminded me of when one of the lads left our Sunday team and put up a three word status that said cheers boys and nothing else, no big speech, no emotional montage, just gone, and everyone in the pub spent the next hour arguing about whether he meant it or if he was being sarcastic, which is basically what happens with football now except it is all on a much bigger stage and people pretend they are above caring while still refreshing the comments every ten seconds, this Savio thing feels exactly like that, a small goodbye that somehow becomes a proper talking point because fans love a bit of drama and a bit of banter and if there is even a hint that the post was not written like a Hollywood farewell then people will tear into it for days
