Schalke are back in the Bundesliga

The key thing here is how much the manager has got out of the squad and how much the mentality seems to have changed, because promotion is usually about more than just talent and Schalke have clearly had that edge. You can tell from the reactions that the club identity still means a lot to people

It is hard not to be pleased for them after everything that has gone on. The club clearly still carries huge weight, and having them back should make the Bundesliga feel stronger. Muslic deserves a lot of credit for the turnaround, but the support around Schalke is still the biggest story.

I know everyone loves a joke about Schalke being a mess but come on, the way people talk you would think they were some tiny club lucky to stumble back up, when in reality this is a huge fanbase that has been dragged through years of shite decisions and constant noise from the outside and they still kept showing up, still kept the stadium full, still kept believing when it would have been easier to just give up and vanish into the background, so yeah maybe the promotion party is loud and maybe the memes will fly and maybe the derby chat will start instantly but the proper point is that the fans stuck with a club that has been battered by everything from bad management to endless pressure and they deserve this more than the smug lot acting like it was always a joke

Schalke being back just feels right and I think a lot of neutrals will be glad to have them around again, because the Bundesliga is better with proper atmosphere and proper rivalries, tbh

Everyone keeps talking about the names on the scoresheet and the manager but the real story is that Schalke have been living in a pressure cooker for years and somehow still kept enough identity to drag themselves back up, which is not easy when every bad result turns into a national conversation and every good result gets buried under the next crisis, so fair play to them because a lot of clubs would have completely lost the plot by now and disappeared into nothing, but Schalke still have that mad aura where even when they are struggling people are watching and talking and hoping for a comeback and now they have actually done it and the whole thing just feels inevitable in the best way, like football has finally remembered where they belong and everyone can get back to pretending they knew it all along

Schalke’s return makes sense on both sporting and cultural grounds. A club with that level of support adds something to the Bundesliga that is hard to replace, and Muslic clearly deserves credit for getting the group organised enough to finish the job. That combination of identity and structure is exactly why this promotion feels significant.

It is one of those promotions that feels bigger than the table because Schalke have spent so long being a punchline to people who do not really care about the club, and now all of that noise gets swallowed by a proper moment for the fans. Muslic gets the praise, Karaman gets the praise, the whole thing gets framed as a turnaround, and fair enough, but I keep thinking about the supporters who kept turning up when everything around the club looked broken because that is the bit that makes this hit harder than a normal promotion. You can mock the chaos all you want, but when a place like that finally gets something back it is impossible not to feel it, even if you are not one of theirs, and now the derby chat is going to be unbearable in the best way and everyone will pretend they are not already looking at next season like madmen

people acting like this is some fairy tale when really it just shows how badly they were mismanaged for years and now everyone wants to pretend it was all destiny, still fair play to them though because the support never went away and thats the bit that makes the rest of it look silly

The important part is that they look like a properly organised side again. If Muslic has changed the mentality as much as people say, then they might actually be competitive rather than just surviving.
