Semenyo's filthy finish

If youre defending that space that high up then youre asking for trouble because once the ball drops and the attacker gets set there is basically no recovery and the keeper is already in a horrible spot, the whole thing is about the first contact and the speed of the shot and this one has both so cleanly that the rest is just damage control really

people are acting like the keeper had any real chance there but once the touch is that clean and the shot is away that quick its basically over and done with, no time to set no time to react and then everyone wants to moan after the fact like they saw it coming the whole time

It is a very efficient finish because the decisive part is the quick transition from control to shot. Goals like this often look simpler than they are, but the speed of execution is what makes it special.

The striking thing for me is how much the angle changes the whole perception of the goal because from one view it looks like a routine finish and from another it looks completely outrageous, and that is why alternate angles are so good at making everyone lose their minds over the same moment, but then you also get the usual crowd turning it into club banter and keeper slander and all the rest of it when really the main story is just a player who has the composure to execute in a big moment and that should be the end of it, though of course it never is because football fans will turn anything into a war about one side being cursed, one side being soft, one side being lucky and then suddenly you are ten comments deep arguing about who would have saved it and whether the defender should have done more and before you know it the thread is about everything except the actual finish

I am tired of seeing people pile onto the keeper or the back line like the goal only exists because somebody messed up when Semenyo clearly does the hard bit himself and that matters, he takes the chance, he keeps his head, he hits it clean and suddenly everyone is acting like the attacker did nothing special, it is such lazy analysis and it happens every single time with a goal this good, one player makes a brilliant action and half the replies go straight to blaming the other side like that explains away the finish, it doesnt, it just makes you look bitter and the lad deserves the credit because that is a proper top level finish and people need to stop pretending otherwise

Saw something like this down the pub once when we were all absolutely battered and one lad tried to explain a goal for about ten minutes while everyone else just kept rewinding the clip on the telly and shouting over him, proper scenes, and this one feels exactly like that because you just end up laughing and swearing and saying no way no way no way every time it loops back, reminds me of those nights where a random finish becomes the only thing anyone can talk about all evening and you are still arguing about whether the keeper should have done better while ordering another pint and losing your voice

The officials would have been thanking their lucky stars that the finish was so good because otherwise everyone would be talking about them, but even then you can still hear the complaints coming through from both sides and honestly I get it because in moments like that every little thing gets magnified and if there was any tiny contact or hesitation people are going to scream about it for days, the ref just gets dragged into it no matter what and then the replay becomes a whole debate about whether the build up was clean or not and its exhausting because the actual football gets buried under the moaning every single time
